Revived Pokemon
The Dome Fossil revives into Kabuto, which evolves into Kabutops at level 40.
Playthrough Notes
Physical attacker with useful physical Defense.
Kabutops becomes a hard-hitting physical attacker, but it is usually less straightforward before the physical/special split because Water attacks use its weaker Special stat in older games.
A fun offensive pick, especially from Generation IV onward; less convenient than Omastar in the earliest games.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: High physical Attack after evolving. Good physical Defense. Can use moves such as Slash, Rock Slide, Brick Break, or Aqua Jet depending on the game. Swift Swim can make it fast in rain.
Weaknesses: Four-times weakness to Grass. Special bulk is poor. Often needs TMs or later-generation movepools to reach its full potential.
Choice Context
Choose the Helix Fossil for a bulky special attacker. Choose the Dome Fossil for a physical attacker.
Kabutops becomes much easier to use from Generation IV onward, when physical Water moves can use its high Attack.
Helix Fossil is usually easier for a normal playthrough.
