Revived Pokemon
The Helix Fossil revives into Omanyte, which evolves into Omastar at level 40.
Playthrough Notes
Slow special attacker and physical tank.
A dependable choice when the team needs Water-type damage and a sturdy answer to physical attacks. Omastar's high Defense and Special Attack make it much easier to use than its low Speed suggests, especially on a rain team with Swift Swim
Very powerful in Red, Blue, and Yellow before the special stat was split into Special Attack and Special Defense.
Usually the safer choice for players who want immediate special damage.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: Strong special Water attacks (115). Very high physical Defense (125). Useful Rock/Water coverage. Can make good use of Ice-type coverage in games where the relevant TM is available.
Weaknesses: Four-times weakness to Grass. Slow. Special bulk is only average. Often obtained late enough that it needs extra training.
Choice Context
Choose the Helix Fossil for a bulky special attacker. Choose the Dome Fossil for a physical attacker.
Kabutops becomes much easier to use from Generation IV onward, when physical Water moves can use its high Attack.
