Grafaiai Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Grafaiai in a Playthrough

Shroodle evolves into Grafaiai at level 28, an uncomplicated midgame evolution that turns a weak early-stage Pokémon into a fast utility attacker. Grafaiai's Poison/Normal typing is unusual: Normal removes Poison's normal exposure to Ghost attacks by granting a Ghost immunity, while Poison supplies resistances to Fairy, Grass, Bug, and Poison; the combined typing is weak only to Ground and Psychic. Its base 110 Speed is the line's strongest conventional stat, with base 95 Attack and 80 Special Attack allowing offense but 63/65/72 bulk making prolonged direct exchanges dangerous. Poison Touch can add poison chances to contact attacks, Unburden enables specialized sweeping after an item is consumed or lost, and the Hidden Ability Prankster gives priority to status moves such as Encore or Parting Shot, though Dark-type opponents are immune to Prankster-boosted status moves. Physical sets can use Poison Jab as dependable STAB, Knock Off for excellent item disruption, and U-turn or Parting Shot to control positioning; Gunk Shot is much stronger but its 80% accuracy is a meaningful drawback in ordinary play. Grafaiai's signature Doodle can copy a target's Ability onto both the user and its ally in doubles, but the effect is highly matchup-dependent and is not a reason by itself to build around Grafaiai in a normal single-player run. Jolly best supports its fast physical role, while Adamant can be useful on Unburden-oriented sets where the Speed boost supplies enough pace on its own.

Grafaiai in Competitive Pokémon

Grafaiai is currently NU in Scarlet/Violet, but its competitive identity is defined less by raw power than by the unusual amount of disruption packed into a base 110 Speed Pokémon. Prankster gives priority to status moves and has supported combinations such as Encore and Parting Shot, allowing Grafaiai to lock an opponent into an exploitable move and then reduce offensive pressure while pivoting to a teammate. Knock Off removes items, U-turn offers a damage-dealing pivot, and Gunk Shot gives substantially stronger Poison STAB when its imperfect accuracy is acceptable; Poison Touch can add incidental status to contact-heavy sets. Unburden creates a very different role, enabling Swords Dance plus Acrobatics or other physical coverage after an appropriate held item is consumed, and later SV analyses have continued to explore this terrain- or seed-enabled sweeping route. Its signature Doodle is much more specialized: by replacing both Grafaiai's and its ally's Abilities with a target's Ability, it can enable creative doubles combinations, but it depends heavily on the matchup and partner rather than representing a universally strong singles tool. Grafaiai's ceiling is held down by modest base 95 Attack, only 80 Special Attack, and poor 63/65/72 bulk, so even with excellent utility it struggles to trade directly with stronger attackers. Its NU placement therefore fits a Pokémon with genuine tactical value and multiple distinct sets, but not the raw defensive or offensive efficiency needed to dominate higher tiers consistently.

Grafaiai in Nuzlockes

Grafaiai can be valuable in a Nuzlocke when treated as a fast disruptor rather than a Pokémon expected to absorb repeated attacks. Base 110 Speed often lets it act first, and Poison/Normal typing provides a useful Ghost immunity plus several resistances, but its mediocre defenses mean unexpected Ground, Psychic, or strong neutral coverage can become lethal quickly. Prankster is particularly useful for safety: priority Encore can trap an opponent in a harmless or setup move, while priority Parting Shot can lower an enemy's offenses and bring a sturdier teammate in under reduced pressure; the important exception is that Dark-types are immune to Prankster-boosted status moves. U-turn supplies a more straightforward pivot, and Knock Off can reduce later danger by removing enemy held items. Poison Jab's perfect accuracy is generally safer than relying on 80%-accurate Gunk Shot when a miss could expose Grafaiai to a knockout. Unburden can produce a fast offensive sweep after item consumption, but setup plans that require surviving a hit are less forgiving on Grafaiai than on a bulky Pokémon. Doodle should also be used cautiously in double battles because overwriting both the user's and ally's Abilities can remove defensive protections as easily as it can create a clever advantage.

The color of the poisonous saliva depends on what the Pokémon eats. Grafaiai covers its fingers in its saliva and draws patterns on trees in forests.

Grafaiai Biology and Behavior

Grafaiai is a solitary, nocturnal primate Pokémon with greatly elongated middle fingers that it coats in brightly colored poisonous saliva; the saliva's color changes with a diet that includes Berries and Bug-type Pokémon. It is moody, meticulous, and highly territorial, fighting other Pokémon—including members of its own species—and using the saliva to paint trees, rocks, and other surfaces throughout its territory. Each individual repeatedly paints its own distinctive pattern for its entire life, making the markings a persistent personal signature as well as a territorial signal. The sweet scent of its painted poison attracts Bug Pokémon at night; the victims become immobilized, allowing Grafaiai to return and collect them by dawn, and when Grafaiai senses danger its poison can become concentrated enough to immobilize a victim for roughly three days. Legends: Z-A confirms that the diet-dependent saliva remains central to territorial marking, adding another main-series source for behavior first established in Scarlet/Violet and official promotional material.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
