Mega Pyroar's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Litleo evolves into Pyroar Male at level 35.

Mega Pyroar is a Mega Evolution of Pyroar Male, not a separate evolutionary stage. The chain below shows the base species relationship.

Forms

Mega Pyroar Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Mega Pyroar in a Playthrough

Litleo evolves into Pyroar at level 35, becoming a Fire/Normal special attacker with base 109 Special Attack and 106 Speed. Flamethrower or Fire Blast and Hyper Voice provide reliable special STAB, while Dark Pulse, Solar Beam in sun, Will-O-Wisp, Noble Roar, Yawn in some games, and other coverage or utility let Pyroar pressure offense or weaken opposing attackers. Rivalry changes damage according to the target's gender and is inconsistent, Unnerve prevents opposing Berries from activating, and the Hidden Ability Moxie raises physical Attack after a knockout but does not naturally match Pyroar's special-oriented stats. Fire/Normal grants a Ghost immunity plus resistances to Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, and Fairy, but is weak to Water, Fighting, Ground, and Rock. Mega Pyroar retains Fire/Normal typing and rises to base 129 Special Attack, 126 Speed, and 92/86 defenses; its signature Fire Mane ability boosts all Fire-type move damage by 50 percent with no HP requirement. Timid is generally ideal for both standard and Mega Pyroar, especially because speed is more reliable protection than their moderate defensive stats.

Mega Pyroar in Competitive Pokémon

Standard Pyroar has generally occupied lower competitive tiers, but base 109 Special Attack and 106 Speed give it real offensive value as a fast Fire-type. Fire STAB plus Hyper Voice, Dark Pulse, Will-O-Wisp, Taunt or utility options can pressure offensive teams, while the Ghost immunity distinguishes Fire/Normal from pure Fire competitors. The main limitation is that its abilities do relatively little for its preferred special attacking role: Moxie raises the wrong offensive stat, Rivalry is matchup-dependent, and Unnerve is situational. Mega Pyroar substantially changes the equation in current competitive play by reaching base 129 Special Attack and 126 Speed while gaining Fire Mane, a permanent 50 percent boost to Fire-type damage. Current Champions tournament data shows it being used as a fast special sweeper, particularly alongside sun support where Fire Mane and weather multiply already powerful Heat Wave or Overheat damage. Because the Mega is new, it does not yet have the long singles tier history of older Mega Evolutions and should be separated from standard Pyroar's established lower-tier résumé.

Mega Pyroar in Nuzlockes

Pyroar is a useful Nuzlocke attacker because base 106 Speed and 109 Special Attack let it remove many opponents before they act, while Normal typing adds a complete Ghost immunity. Flamethrower is generally safer than Fire Blast, and Hyper Voice provides accurate neutral STAB when Fire coverage is poor. Water, Fighting, Ground, and Rock attacks are the main dangers, and the modest 72 Defense and 66 Special Defense mean Pyroar should not be treated as a bulky switch-in despite its decent 86 HP. Noble Roar can reduce both opposing Attack and Special Attack and create safer setup or healing opportunities in games where it is available. Mega Pyroar's improved defenses, base 126 Speed, and unconditional Fire Mane boost make it substantially safer offensively, but its four weaknesses remain unchanged.

X / Omega Ruby

The male with the largest mane of fire is the leader of the pride.

Y / Alpha Sapphire

With fiery breath of more than 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, they viciously threaten any challenger. The females protect the pride’s cubs.

Ultra Sun

The males are usually lazy, but when attacked by a strong foe, a male will protect its friends with no regard for its own safety.

Ultra Moon

The temperature of its breath is over 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, but Pyroar doesn’t use it on its prey. This Pokémon prefers to eat raw meat.

Mega Pyroar Biology and Behavior

Mega Pyroar combines visual traits of male and female Pyroar into a single enormous mane, eliminating the ordinary form's gender-based difference in appearance. Mega Evolution raises the temperature of its fiery breath from roughly 10,000 to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The expanded mane is not merely ornamental: Mega Pyroar can swing and manipulate its mane as a physical weapon or channel flames through it while shielding allies. The form therefore exaggerates Pyroar's existing role as both a pride defender and a powerful fire-breathing predator.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
