Sinistea Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Sinistea in a Playthrough
Sinistea evolves into Polteageist by using a pot item rather than by level: Phony Form requires a Cracked Pot, while the rarer Antique Form requires a Chipped Pot, and the form remains the same after evolution. The two authenticity forms have identical stats, typing, Abilities, and battle performance, so the stamp beneath the vessel matters primarily for rarity and the required evolution item rather than for team role. Polteageist is a powerful special setup attacker with base 134 Special Attack and 114 Special Defense but only base 65 Defense, 60 HP, and 70 Speed, making it dangerous after setup but vulnerable to physical attacks beforehand. Shell Smash raises Attack, Special Attack, and Speed by two stages while lowering both defenses, and White Herb can immediately erase those defensive drops; Shadow Ball then provides reliable Ghost STAB while Stored Power, Giga Drain, and Tera Blast or other coverage vary by generation. Weak Armor can also raise Speed by two stages when Polteageist is struck physically, but the simultaneous Defense drop makes deliberately taking a physical hit risky, while the Hidden Ability Cursed Body can instead disable an opponent's move after contact. Pure Ghost grants Normal and Fighting immunities and Bug and Poison resistances while leaving only Dark and Ghost weaknesses, giving Polteageist several useful switch opportunities if the opponent's coverage is known. Timid is generally the safest Nature for maximizing its Speed after or before setup, while Modest can be used when the player expects Shell Smash to provide enough Speed and wants maximum special damage.
Sinistea in Competitive Pokémon
Polteageist has built a legitimate competitive identity as a Shell Smash sweeper and has actually risen in restriction over time, from RU in Sword/Shield to current UUBL in Scarlet/Violet. In SS RU, base 134 Special Attack, Shell Smash, Shadow Ball, Stored Power or Giga Drain, Strength Sap, and either Weak Armor or Cursed Body made Polteageist a dangerous hyper-offense win condition capable of turning one free turn into a sweep. White Herb was especially synergistic because Shell Smash's defensive drops disappeared immediately, while Focus Sash could instead guarantee survival from full HP and Weak Armor could potentially create even more Speed after a physical hit. The shallow offensive movepool was the main limitation: depending on its fourth move, Polteageist could struggle badly with Dark-types or Normal-types, and priority or strong physical attackers remained dangerous before setup. Scarlet and Violet currently classify Polteageist as UUBL, with Shell Smash, Shadow Ball, Stored Power, Giga Drain, and Terastallization providing enough sweeping potential to push it above standard UU usage. Terastallization is particularly important because it can escape the original Ghost typing's Dark or Ghost weakness while powering Stored Power strategies or creating a new STAB option. Phony and Antique forms are competitively identical, so their rarity and authenticity have no reason to be described as separate tier histories.
Sinistea in Nuzlockes
Polteageist can be extremely powerful in a Nuzlocke, but the family requires attention to both evolution-item authenticity and the risks created by Shell Smash. A Phony Sinistea needs a Cracked Pot while an Antique Sinistea needs a Chipped Pot, so finding the wrong item does nothing; the rarity of Antique Form can make its correct evolution item more inconvenient in some playthroughs. Normal and Fighting immunities create completely free switches when those attacks are known, and strong Special Defense gives Polteageist good margin against many neutral special attacks. The physical side is much less safe: base 60 HP and 65 Defense mean a strong physical hit can be lethal, and Weak Armor reduces Defense even further while increasing Speed. Shell Smash is an exceptionally powerful win condition but deliberately lowers both defenses unless White Herb is available, so it should be used only against a target that cannot punish the setup turn or against a boss whose remaining team can then be swept safely. Shadow Ball and Giga Drain are accurate and reliable, with Giga Drain providing useful recovery, while Stored Power becomes very strong after multiple boosts without introducing accuracy risk. Cursed Body can produce valuable emergency disruption but is chance-based, so it should be treated as a bonus rather than part of a guaranteed survival plan.

Sinistea Biology and Behavior
Sinistea is created when the spirit of someone who died alone possesses cold leftover tea and the cup containing it. Phony Form inhabits a counterfeit version of the famous antique teacup and lacks the authenticity stamp found beneath Antique Form's vessel. The purple tea-body has a swirl that acts as a weakness: stirring the liquid can disrupt the pattern and leave Sinistea dizzy. Sinistea waits for someone to drink it so that it can enter the victim's body and drain life force, but the tea tastes so unpleasant that most potential victims spit it out before much energy can be stolen. It commonly inhabits houses and hotels, where abandoned cups of tea provide both vessels and opportunities to encounter humans.

Sinistea Size Comparison: BETA
Sinistea is listed at 0' 4" (0.1 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
