Honedge Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Honedge in a Playthrough
Honedge evolves into Doublade at level 35, and Doublade evolves into Aegislash with a Dusk Stone. The entire line is Steel/Ghost, giving it complete immunities to Normal, Fighting, and Poison plus a long list of resistances, but weaknesses to Fire, Ground, Ghost, and Dark. Honedge and Doublade use No Guard, which makes moves used by or against them ignore normal accuracy checks; this can make powerful inaccurate coverage reliable, but it also means opposing attacks cannot miss. Aegislash instead has Stance Change and normally begins battle in Shield Forme, using enormous Defense and Special Defense before transforming into Blade Forme immediately before most damaging attacks. King's Shield returns it to Shield Forme while protecting it from damaging moves; in Generations VI and VII, contact into King's Shield lowers the attacker's Attack by two stages, while from Generation VIII onward the drop is only one stage. Aegislash's stance stats were also reduced in Generation VIII from base 150 to base 140 in the relevant offenses or defenses, though it remains extremely strong. Brave or Quiet natures can be useful because moving after an opponent often lets Aegislash absorb a hit in Shield Forme before changing to Blade Forme, while Adamant, Modest, or defensive natures fit more specialized sets.
Honedge in Competitive Pokémon
Aegislash was one of the most influential new Pokemon of Generation VI. In XY and ORAS its unique Stance Change mechanics, base 150 defensive stats in Shield Forme, base 150 offensive stats in Blade Forme, King's Shield, excellent Steel/Ghost typing, priority Shadow Sneak, Sacred Sword, Shadow Ball, Toxic, and mixed attacking options made it so difficult to prepare for that it was banned from standard OU to Ubers. Its threat was not only raw power: opponents often had to guess whether Aegislash would attack, use King's Shield, spread status, or remain in Shield Forme, and a wrong prediction could cost an attacker both momentum and Attack stages. Doublade also developed its own lower-tier niche with Eviolite, base 150 Defense, Swords Dance, Shadow Sneak, and No Guard. Generation VIII deliberately reduced Aegislash's stance stats from 150 to 140 and weakened King's Shield's Attack penalty, making it substantially more manageable and allowing it to settle into ordinary upper- and mid-tier play rather than remaining an automatic Uber. Its core competitive identity nevertheless remains unique: it controls the timing of offense and defense through form management rather than relying on one fixed stat spread.
Honedge in Nuzlockes
The Honedge line is extremely valuable in Nuzlockes because three immunities and many resistances create a large number of safe switch opportunities. Doublade is physically very sturdy even before evolving, and Eviolite can make it exceptionally difficult for physical attackers to break. No Guard is a double-edged ability, however, because while it prevents your own inaccurate moves from missing, it also prevents enemy attacks from missing Honedge or Doublade. Aegislash is safest when its stance timing is understood: if it moves first with a damaging attack, it enters Blade Forme before the opponent retaliates and loses most of its defensive advantage for that turn; moving second can let it take the hit in Shield Forme and then attack. King's Shield is therefore invaluable for resetting to Shield Forme and scouting, while unexpected Fire, Ground, Ghost, or Dark coverage remains dangerous. A Dusk Stone also determines when Doublade can reach Aegislash, so stone availability matters in game-specific planning.

Apparently this Pokémon is born when a departed spirit inhabits a sword. It attaches itself to people and drinks their life force.
If anyone dares to grab its hilt, it wraps a blue cloth around that person’s arm and drains that person’s life energy completely.
Honedge’s soul once belonged to a person who was killed a long time ago by the sword that makes up Honedge’s body.
The blue eye on the sword’s handguard is the true body of Honedge. With its old cloth, it drains people’s lives away.

Honedge Biology and Behavior
Honedge is said to form when the spirit of a person inhabits the sword that killed them long ago. Its blue cloth is prehensile and functions almost like an arm, allowing it to hold its sheath or wrap around other objects. Anyone who carelessly grabs Honedge by the hilt risks having the cloth coil around their arm and drain away their life energy. The species therefore behaves less like an ordinary tool brought to life and more like a predatory spirit attached to a weapon.

Honedge Size Comparison: BETA
Honedge is listed at 2' 7" (0.8 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Honedge currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
