Forms

Lopunny Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Lopunny in a Playthrough

Buneary evolves into Lopunny through high friendship rather than at a fixed level, and Buneary unusually begins with base friendship 0, so obtaining the final form can require considerably more walking, battling, grooming, or other friendship-building than most friendship evolutions. Base Lopunny is a fast but modestly powered Normal-type with base 105 Speed, 84 Defense, 96 Special Defense, and only 76 Attack; moves such as Return in older generations, Jump Kick or High Jump Kick, elemental punches, Fake Out, U-turn, and support options provide flexibility without making it a dominant story attacker. Cute Charm can infatuate opposite-sex contact attackers, Klutz deliberately suppresses most held-item effects and is usually inconvenient outside tricks involving Switcheroo or Fling, while the Hidden Ability Limber prevents paralysis. Mega Lopunny transforms the line completely where Mega Evolution is available, becoming Normal/Fighting with base 136 Attack and 135 Speed plus Scrappy, allowing its Normal- and Fighting-type attacks to hit Ghost Pokemon and giving it exceptionally broad neutral coverage. Jolly is particularly natural for Mega Lopunny and physical base Lopunny sets, but High Jump Kick's severe crash damage on a miss makes safer Fighting moves preferable when the extra power is not necessary during a normal story run.

Lopunny in Competitive Pokémon

Base Lopunny was historically a low-tier utility Pokemon rather than a serious attacker: DPP Smogon placed it in ZU and used its Speed with tricks such as Choice Scarf, Switcheroo, Encore, Healing Wish, Thunder Wave, and Klutz rather than relying on base 76 Attack to break teams. Mega Lopunny completely rewrote that history in ORAS, becoming one of OU's premier offensive Pokemon through base 136 Attack, base 135 Speed, Normal/Fighting STAB, and Scrappy, which removed Ghost-types as safe answers to its STAB combination. High Jump Kick and Return provided essentially unresisted neutral coverage in the contemporary metagame, while Fake Out helped it Mega Evolve safely and options such as Ice Punch, Encore, Power-Up Punch, Substitute, Toxic, and Healing Wish made its final slots difficult to predict. Mega Lopunny remained OU in SM and also developed legitimate niches in doubles and even Ubers because its Speed and Scrappy Fake Out gave it unusually reliable offensive support. Its limitations are moderate raw power compared with dedicated wallbreakers, vulnerability to residual damage and status, and the risk of High Jump Kick crash damage, but the Mega form is historically one of the clearest examples of Mega Evolution converting a weak base Pokemon into a major top-tier threat.

Lopunny in Nuzlockes

Buneary can be awkward in a Nuzlocke because its starting friendship is exceptionally low and it must reach high friendship before evolving, potentially leaving the player with a relatively weak first stage for longer than expected. Once it becomes Lopunny, base 105 Speed, a Ghost immunity, good 84/96 defenses, and broad support moves create a much safer Pokemon than Buneary, although pure Normal typing offers few resistances and Fighting attacks remain dangerous. Limber can remove paralysis from the list of possible status problems, while Cute Charm occasionally creates free turns against eligible contact attackers; Klutz is generally the least predictable or useful ability for straightforward permadeath play because it disables most held-item benefits. Mega Lopunny is dramatically stronger where available, and its base 135 Speed often prevents opponents from moving at all, but High Jump Kick is one of the least Nuzlocke-friendly major STAB moves because a miss or immunity-protection interaction can inflict enormous crash damage. Safer Fighting moves, Fake Out chip, and carefully exploiting Speed are preferable to maximizing theoretical damage, and a Jolly nature can further reduce the number of dangerous opponents able to strike first.

Lopunny Biology and Behavior

Lopunny is a cautious rabbit Pokemon that constantly monitors its surroundings and may wrap its body in its large, fluffy ears or immediately spring away when danger is detected. It is extremely protective of those ears and carefully grooms them; rough handling can provoke an immediate retaliatory kick from legs powerful enough to drive back opponents with movements compared to a karate master. Lopunny sheds its coat twice each year, growing a soft winter layer filled with insulating air, and humans collect the shed fur to make unusually warm, lightweight hats and mufflers. Mega Evolution reverses much of its normal temperament by awakening intense fighting instincts, and Mega Lopunny sheds fur that would obstruct its attacks while using the long ears themselves as powerful whips capable of crumpling steel plates. The contrast is unusually dramatic: ordinary Lopunny is wary and dislikes unnecessary fighting, while its Mega form becomes aggressively optimized for combat.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
