Drifblim Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Drifblim in a Playthrough

Drifloon evolves into Drifblim at level 28, producing a Ghost/Flying Pokemon with an enormous base 150 HP stat but only 44 Defense and 54 Special Defense, so its apparent bulk is less secure than the HP number alone suggests. The typing is extremely useful for planned switching because it grants complete immunities to Normal, Fighting, and Ground attacks plus resistances to Grass, Bug, and Poison, while weaknesses to Electric, Ice, Rock, Ghost, and Dark give opponents several ways to exploit it. Drifblim's base 90 Special Attack works naturally with Shadow Ball and later special coverage, while Will-O-Wisp, Calm Mind, Baton Pass in older games, Stockpile, Thunder Wave in some generations, and later Strength Sap can give it valuable support or setup roles. Unburden doubles Speed after its held item is consumed or lost and can turn the otherwise middling base 80 Speed into a sweeping advantage, while Flare Boost increases special damage when burned at the cost of residual HP and Aftermath punishes contact only if Drifblim is knocked out. A Modest or Timid nature can suit offensive sets, but during an ordinary playthrough the line is usually strongest when its three immunities and utility are exploited deliberately rather than relying on its huge HP to absorb arbitrary attacks.

Drifblim in Competitive Pokémon

Drifblim was a legitimate DPP NU Pokemon whose defining competitive trait was Unburden, allowing a consumed item to double its Speed and create one-time sweeping opportunities after Calm Mind or other setup. Smogon also documented lead, revenge-killing, Baton Pass, weather-support, and Aftermath utility sets, reflecting a movepool broad enough to give the species more roles than its mediocre defenses suggest. Later generations added tools such as Acrobatics, Flare Boost, Defog, and Strength Sap, while Unburden continued to support physical or special setup strategies; in XY PU, for example, Drifblim could use Unburden as an effective lower-tier sweeper. It nevertheless fell toward tiers such as ZU in later generations because base 80 Speed and 90 Special Attack are unimpressive before boosting, Stealth Rock punishes its Flying typing, and the enormous HP stat is undermined by 44/54 defenses. Modern Drifblim remains a specialized low-tier utility or Unburden Pokemon rather than a high-level staple, with its best performances coming from unusual immunities, item-triggered Speed, status, and recovery rather than raw offensive power.

Drifblim in Nuzlockes

Drifblim offers excellent Nuzlocke switch utility because Normal, Fighting, and Ground immunities create three categories of attacks that can be entered with zero damage when the opposing moveset is known. Its base 150 HP can absorb substantial neutral damage, but the very low defenses mean that strong super-effective Electric, Ice, Rock, Ghost, or Dark attacks can still remove huge portions of that HP and should not be treated casually. Unburden is the safest broadly useful ability because a consumed Berry can produce a major Speed advantage without sacrificing defenses, whereas Flare Boost requires burn damage and Aftermath provides value only after the Pokemon dies, which is fundamentally incompatible with preserving a Nuzlocke team member. Will-O-Wisp can make physical opponents much safer, and Strength Sap in later games can simultaneously reduce Attack and restore health, but inaccurate status moves still introduce failure risk. Self-sacrificial options such as Explosion or Destiny Bond may be tactically powerful elsewhere but are usually unacceptable under permadeath rules, so Drifblim is best treated as an immunity-based pivot and utility Pokemon rather than a disposable Ghost.

Drifblim Biology and Behavior

Drifblim contains souls burdened by regrets, which are described as helping fuel the gas inside its huge balloon-like body. It can inflate or release that gas to control altitude but cannot freely choose a horizontal destination, instead allowing winds to carry it along while transporting people or Pokemon that cling to it. Drifblim are rarely active during daylight and gather into groups around dusk; when those groups are noticed, they may abruptly disappear to an unknown destination. Despite ominous folklore claiming that passengers can be carried to the afterlife, Drifblim is described as gentle and has also been observed transporting Pokemon such as Clamperl. Its melancholy, directionless drifting has inspired human songs and poems, making it a species whose supernatural reputation has become part of regional culture as well as Pokédex lore.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Drifblim is currently tagged for wings.
