Nidoking Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Nidoking in a Playthrough
The Nidoran male line develops into Nidoking, one of the most versatile offensive Pokemon available in games where it can be obtained and evolved early. Nidoking's Poison/Ground typing provides useful STAB and an Electric immunity, while its exceptionally broad TM and tutor movepool allows it to use Ground, Poison, Ice, Electric, Fire, Water, Fighting, Bug, and other coverage depending on the generation. This versatility is particularly powerful in Kanto, where an early Moon Stone can produce a fully evolved Nidoking before the second Gym and later TMs can continually expand its coverage. Compared with Nidoqueen it is faster and more offensively oriented but less forgiving when forced to absorb strong attacks.
Nidoking in Competitive Pokémon
Nidoking's defining modern competitive role is that of a coverage-heavy wallbreaker using Sheer Force and Life Orb. Sheer Force boosts many of its strongest attacks and, on qualifying moves, prevents Life Orb recoil while preserving the item's damage increase, allowing Nidoking to attack with unusually high effective power. Its immense special coverage makes conventional defensive switching difficult because Ground-, Poison-, Ice-, Electric-, and Fire-type attacks can target very different checks. Its limitations are middling defensive stats and a Speed tier that leaves it vulnerable to many offensive Pokemon, so it is most effective when brought into battle safely against slower teams.
Nidoking in Nuzlockes
Nidoking is one of the strongest early-game rewards available in Kanto Nuzlockes because a Route 3 Nidoran male can become a fully evolved Pokemon soon after reaching Mt. Moon. Its wide movepool lets it solve many different boss matchups throughout a run, and community tier discussions consistently emphasize that its usefulness remains high even after its early statistical advantage has faded because coverage and STAB Earthquake continue to scale well. Compared with Nidoqueen, Nidoking provides greater offensive pressure and Speed but somewhat less defensive security, making poor switches or unexpected super-effective attacks more dangerous. It also competes heavily for valuable TMs, so its flexibility is greatest when the player is willing to invest important moves in it.

Nidoking Biology and Behavior
Nidoking is an extremely powerful close-range combatant whose thick tail is used to smash, constrict, and incapacitate opponents and is described as powerful enough to topple a metal transmission tower. Its hide is exceptionally hard and its venomous horn is capable of crushing or piercing diamond-like material. Nidoking is proud of its strength and can become uncontrollable once it enters a rampage. Pokedex material specifically states that a Nidoqueen it has lived with for a long time can calm it during one of these rampages.

Nidoking Size Comparison: BETA
Nidoking is listed at 4' 7" (1.4 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Nidoking currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
