Evolution Chain

Rotom does not evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Rotom Heat is a form of Rotom, not a separate evolutionary stage. The chain below shows the base species relationship.

Forms

Rotom Heat Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Rotom Heat in a Playthrough

Rotom is a single-stage Electric/Ghost Pokemon whose practical value changes dramatically depending on whether appliance forms are available. Base Rotom has 95 Special Attack and 91 Speed with Levitate, giving it immunities to Normal, Fighting, and Ground attacks plus useful Electric and Ghost STAB; the five core appliance forms trade a little Speed for much greater 107 Defense and Special Defense, 105 Special Attack, and a new signature coverage move. In Generation IV every appliance form remained Electric/Ghost despite learning Overheat, Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Air Slash, or Leaf Storm, but from Generation V onward Heat becomes Electric/Fire, Wash Electric/Water, Frost Electric/Ice, Fan Electric/Flying, and Mow Electric/Grass. Wash Rotom is usually the easiest all-purpose form because Levitate removes its nominal Ground weakness and leaves only Grass as a conventional weakness, while Heat offers many resistances, Mow pressures Water- and Ground-types, Frost supplies powerful Ice coverage, and Fan redundantly combines Flying typing with Levitate. Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, Pain Split, and the form-exclusive moves make Rotom an unusually flexible story pivot; Timid or Modest are natural offensive natures, while Bold or Calm can suit the bulkier appliance forms.

Rotom Heat in Competitive Pokémon

Rotom's competitive history is split sharply between base Rotom and its appliance forms. In DPP, base Rotom was UU, but the statistically stronger appliance forms were critical members of OU despite all still being Electric/Ghost; their excellent 50/107/107 bulk, base 105 Special Attack, Levitate, spinblocking Ghost typing, Will-O-Wisp, Trick, Thunderbolt, and form-exclusive coverage made them some of the generation's most useful defensive and offensive glue Pokemon. Generation V changed each appliance form's secondary type to match its machine, fundamentally separating their roles: Wash Rotom became the long-term standout because Electric/Water plus Levitate leaves only Grass as a normal weakness and Volt Switch, Hydro Pump, Will-O-Wisp, and Pain Split make it an excellent bulky pivot. Heat Rotom has repeatedly occupied strong UU or RU-style roles through Electric/Fire resistances and Overheat, while Mow, Frost, and Fan generally sit lower because their typings or exclusive moves are less consistent; modern SV Smogon lists Rotom-Wash in UU and Rotom-Heat around PUBL while the other forms occupy more specialized niches. Across generations, Rotom's defining competitive strength has not been sweeping power but role compression: Ground immunity, status, pivoting, respectable special offense, and form-specific resistances allow a single team slot to answer several unrelated problems.

Rotom Heat in Nuzlockes

Rotom can be extremely safe in Nuzlockes when the player's game provides access to the form-changing appliances, because Levitate creates a Ground immunity and each form can be selected to cover a different set of threats without changing the individual Pokemon. Wash Rotom is particularly forgiving in modern games because Electric/Water plus Levitate leaves Grass as its only ordinary weakness, while Heat Rotom can switch into many Fire-, Flying-, Ice-, Steel-, Bug-, and Grass-type attacks and Mow Rotom gives strong Water and Ground matchups. Base Rotom's Normal, Fighting, and Ground immunities are also excellent for planned switches, though 50 HP means even its appliance forms should not be mistaken for enormous HP tanks despite high defenses. Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Leaf Storm, and Overheat all carry accuracy or stat-drop considerations that matter more under permadeath rules, so Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, status, and carefully chosen form advantages are often safer than repeatedly relying on the strongest possible exclusive move. Because Rotom can change forms rather than evolve, one caught individual can adapt to different boss fights throughout a run, making it one of the most flexible Nuzlocke encounters where the appliance system is conveniently available.

Rotom Heat Biology and Behavior

Heat Rotom forms when Rotom possesses a convection microwave oven powered by a special motor, changing its aura to red and shaping its electrical appendages like oven mitts. It becomes skilled at manipulating flame and usually applies that ability mischievously, deliberately overheating rooms, scorching its surroundings, or burning people's favorite clothing and then appearing pleased with the result. The appliance is not merely a shell: if the microwave malfunctions, the Rotom inhabiting it becomes lethargic, showing that the Pokemon's condition is directly linked to the health of the possessed machine. In battle the form is associated with Overheat and, from Generation V onward, Electric/Fire typing.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
