Sawk Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Sawk in a Playthrough
Sawk is a single-stage pure Fighting-type that trades Throh's enormous HP for far greater offensive tempo, combining base 125 Attack with base 85 Speed and average 75/75/75 bulk. Close Combat is its defining STAB attack and can break through many neutral opponents immediately, while Rock Slide or Stone Edge, Earthquake, elemental punches, Knock Off in later games, Poison Jab, and Bulk Up provide useful coverage. Sturdy allows Sawk to survive an otherwise fatal hit from full HP in modern mechanics, Inner Focus prevents flinching, and Mold Breaker lets its attacks ignore abilities such as Sturdy, Levitate, or other defensive effects when applicable. The main story drawback is that Close Combat lowers both Defense and Special Defense after use, so repeated use can leave Sawk vulnerable even when the first knockout was easy. Adamant maximizes its excellent Attack, while Jolly can push its middling Speed high enough to beat more opponents before they move.
Sawk in Competitive Pokémon
Sawk established itself as a strong BW NU attacker through a simple but effective package: base 125 Attack, Close Combat, good physical coverage, and enough Speed to outrun many bulky Pokemon. Choice Band and Choice Scarf sets both exploit that immediate power, while Sturdy provides emergency insurance from full HP and Mold Breaker can bypass defensive abilities that would otherwise complicate a sweep. Later generations improved its coverage with moves such as Knock Off and Poison Jab, and SM analyses still gave Sawk a lower-tier niche as a hard-hitting Fighting-type that could pressure common defensive cores. It has never become a sustained upper-tier staple because base 85 Speed is only moderate and 75/75/75 bulk is not enough to repeatedly absorb hits after Close Combat drops. Even so, Sawk's competitive identity is much clearer than many low-tier Pokemon: it is a straightforward physical breaker whose usefulness rises when Sturdy or Mold Breaker solves a specific matchup.
Sawk in Nuzlockes
Sawk is a strong Nuzlocke encounter because it is fully evolved immediately, base 125 Attack shortens dangerous battles, and Sturdy can guarantee survival from full HP against one otherwise lethal hit. Keeping Sturdy intact matters enormously: chip damage from hazards, weather, status, or earlier attacks removes that guarantee, so healing before a major fight can be worth more than squeezing out extra damage. Close Combat is powerful and accurate but lowers both defenses, making it risky when multiple opponents remain or the target is unlikely to faint. Psychic and Flying are the original major weaknesses, with Fairy added from Generation VI onward, and faster special attackers can exploit Sawk's merely average bulk. Adamant provides excellent damage, while Jolly can be safer when moving first prevents a dangerous retaliation.

The karate chops of a Sawk that’s trained itself to the limit can cleave the ocean itself.

Sawk Biology and Behavior
Sawk is a male-only mountain-dwelling species that devotes itself almost entirely to martial-arts training. Individuals punch trees and boulders high in the mountains, and the sound of that training can carry over long distances. Tightening the black belt around its waist increases its strength and focus. Sawk becomes angry when training is interrupted, and Pokédex lore claims a fully trained individual can split an ocean with a karate chop.

Sawk Size Comparison: BETA
Sawk is listed at 4' 7" (1.4 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
