Beautifly Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Beautifly in a Playthrough
Wurmple is an extremely early-evolving Bug Pokemon whose hidden personality value determines whether it becomes Silcoon or Cascoon at level 7; the player cannot reliably predict or control the branch by appearance, nature, or ordinary gameplay choices. Silcoon evolves into Beautifly at level 10, producing a Bug/Flying special attacker, while Cascoon becomes Bug/Poison Dustox at the same level and develops into the more defensive and status-oriented branch. The line's greatest playthrough advantage is timing: obtaining a fully evolved Pokemon around level 10 can be genuinely useful during the earliest part of Hoenn even though both final forms have low overall base-stat totals and tend to fall behind stronger Pokemon later. Beautifly offers stronger Special Attack - 90 in Generations III through V and 100 from Generation VI onward - and early Flying or Bug offense, whereas Dustox provides better defensive stats and access to tools such as status, Moonlight, Protect, or later Quiver Dance depending on game. Both final forms have significant weaknesses, especially Beautifly's quadruple Rock weakness, so the family is best viewed as an early-game power spike rather than a line expected to dominate an entire playthrough.
Beautifly in Competitive Pokémon
Neither Beautifly nor Dustox has developed a substantial high-level competitive career because both suffer from very low base-stat totals, awkward defensive profiles, and competition from stronger Bug-types. Beautifly's later base 100 Special Attack and access to Quiver Dance give it a recognizable sweeping concept, but base 65 Speed, poor 60/50/50 bulk, and a quadruple Stealth Rock weakness make setup extremely difficult; modern Smogon analyses have described it as outclassed even in low tiers. Dustox trades offensive power for better defenses and has experimented with Quiver Dance, Roost or Moonlight, Toxic, and other utility, but its extremely low offensive stats and Stealth Rock vulnerability make it passive and easy to pressure. The cocoon stages have essentially no conventional competitive role beyond very specialized challenge formats. The family's main competitive significance is therefore structural rather than metagame-defining: it offers two different fully evolved Pokemon at an exceptionally low evolution level, but neither final form has the stats needed to translate that early-game advantage into serious long-term competitive success.
Beautifly in Nuzlockes
Wurmple is an appealing Nuzlocke encounter because it reaches a fully evolved form at level 10, giving the player a major statistical advantage during some of the earliest routes and trainer battles. The uncontrollable evolution branch is the main planning complication: the same captured Wurmple may become either Beautifly or Dustox, so a team cannot safely assume which role it will receive until level 7. Beautifly offers better immediate damage and a Ground immunity but is physically frail and catastrophically weak to Rock, while Dustox generally has a larger defensive margin and can exploit Poison typing and status but ends battles more slowly. Both branches decline as enemy levels and base stats increase, and keeping an early-route Bug in dangerous late-game matchups simply because it was valuable early can create unnecessary risk. In a Nuzlocke, the line is most valuable when allowed to do what early bugs do best: provide immediate power and utility, then either transition into a specialized support role or retire before its weaknesses become costly.

Beautifly Biology and Behavior
Beautifly is far more aggressive than its colorful wings suggest, using a long coiled proboscis not only to drink flower nectar and pollen but also to pierce other creatures and consume fruit juice, water, or bodily fluids. It becomes particularly hostile if disturbed while feeding and may jab an intruder directly with the proboscis rather than simply flying away. Wild Beautifly favor forests rich in flowers and ride warm spring winds while searching for pollen, often competing with Combee for nectar resources. Its bright butterfly-like appearance therefore conceals a feeding ecology that combines ordinary pollination behavior with opportunistic predation.

Beautifly Size Comparison: BETA
Beautifly is listed at 3' 3" (1.0 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Beautifly currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
