Bidoof Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Bidoof in a Playthrough
Bidoof evolves into Bibarel at only level 15, quickly producing a Normal/Water Pokemon with base 85 Attack, respectable 79 HP, and useful physical STAB after the Generation IV physical/special split allows Waterfall and similar Water moves to use its stronger attacking stat. Bibarel is not an exceptional battler on raw statistics, but Normal and Water provide broad neutral coverage, its Ghost immunity is useful, and its famous compatibility with many Sinnoh field moves historically made it one of the most convenient utility Pokemon in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Simple can make boosting moves disproportionately powerful because positive stat changes are doubled, while Unaware ignores many opposing stat boosts and can be safer against setup users; the later Hidden Ability Moody creates large random stat swings but is too unpredictable to rely on for an ordinary story team. Swords Dance, Curse, Amnesia, Waterfall, Return in older games, Aqua Jet, and various coverage moves can make Bibarel much stronger than its reputation suggests when deliberately supported. It remains limited by mediocre defenses and only average Speed, so an Adamant nature is useful for straightforward physical offense but does not transform Bibarel into a high-stat sweeper without setup.
Bidoof in Competitive Pokémon
Bibarel has spent most of its competitive history in the lowest tiers because 410 total base stats leave it underpowered compared with conventional fully evolved attackers, but its abilities give it several genuine niches. Smogon has placed it at ZU-level usage in multiple generations, where Simple can turn Swords Dance into an effective four-stage Attack boost and make defensive boosting moves similarly extreme. Unaware supports a different role by ignoring an opponent's offensive boosts, allowing Bibarel to disrupt certain setup sweepers despite otherwise mediocre defenses. Moody became infamous for the opposite reason: the ability's random boosts can spiral out of control and has been banned or heavily restricted in many standard competitive environments rather than serving as a normal balanced niche. Even with excellent abilities, Bibarel's low overall stats, susceptibility to Electric, Fighting, and Grass attacks, and dependence on setup or surprise value prevent it from becoming a consistent high-tier Pokemon.
Bidoof in Nuzlockes
The Bidoof line is easy to obtain and evolves early, which gives it immediate practical value in Nuzlockes even when it is not intended to remain a permanent team member. Bibarel's Normal/Water typing provides a Ghost immunity and resistances to Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water, while its broad move compatibility can cover gaps created by encounter luck or deaths elsewhere on the team. Its defenses are only mediocre, however, so it should not be mistaken for a bulky Water-type, and Electric, Grass, and especially strong Fighting attacks can end a matchup quickly. Simple can support powerful controlled setup, but it also magnifies negative stat changes, making Intimidate, defense drops, or other debuffs more dangerous; Unaware is often the more predictable safety ability because it can neutralize enemy setup without requiring Bibarel to expose itself while boosting. Moody is generally a poor permadeath strategy despite its enormous theoretical ceiling because the random lowered stat may be exactly the defensive or Speed stat needed to survive the next turn.

Bidoof Biology and Behavior
Bidoof's large incisors grow continuously, forcing it to gnaw wood, rocks, and other hard objects to keep the teeth worn to a manageable length. Wild groups nest near bodies of water and construct dam-like nesting areas, but Bidoof also wanders into human settlements and may chew on houses when suitable material is available. Its stout appearance is misleading: the species can move with surprising agility and is noted for remaining unusually calm and difficult to upset. The webbing between its toes and preference for waterside habitat foreshadow the much stronger aquatic specialization that appears after evolution.

Bidoof Size Comparison: BETA
Bidoof is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
