Kricketot Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Kricketot in a Playthrough

Kricketot evolves into Kricketune at level 10, one of the earliest final-evolution levels in the series, so its main story advantage is receiving a fully evolved Pokemon while most early opponents are still using basic forms. Kricketune is a pure Bug-type physical attacker with only base 85 Attack and 65 Speed, and even after evolving its defenses remain poor, so the early statistical jump fades quickly as stronger teammates become available. X-Scissor, Bug Bite, Brick Break, Night Slash, and later the heavily buffed Leech Life give it usable physical attacks, while Swords Dance can compensate for mediocre raw power if a safe setup turn exists. Swarm strengthens Bug attacks at low HP, while the Hidden Ability Technician improves eligible low-power moves, but neither ability fixes Kricketune's limited Speed or fragile 77/51/51 bulk. An Adamant nature is the straightforward offensive choice when Kricketune is being used seriously, but in most playthroughs the line is best viewed as a useful early-game fully evolved Bug rather than a long-term centerpiece.

Kricketot in Competitive Pokémon

Kricketune has never been a strong standard competitive Pokemon, and Smogon's DPP analysis is unusually direct that its low Speed, weak defenses, shallow support options, and mediocre Attack leave it badly outclassed even among lower-tier Bug-types. Swords Dance was its clearest early niche, using X-Scissor with coverage such as Brick Break and Night Slash, while Choice Scarf could patch its Speed enough to act as a novelty revenge killer. Generation VI gave Kricketune Sticky Web, which became its most recognizable later competitive role: it could lead with Focus Sash, establish Speed-reducing entry hazards, and sometimes use Taunt or Endeavor before fainting. Even that niche remained weak because dedicated Sticky Web setters such as Smeargle and Shuckle offered better support, survivability, or both, and Smogon lists Kricketune in very low tiers such as ZU in later generations. Technician provides some additional damage to moves such as Bug Bite, but Kricketune's competitive identity remains that of a highly specialized hazard lead or challenge pick rather than a broadly viable attacker.

Kricketot in Nuzlockes

Kricketot's level-10 evolution is genuinely useful in a Nuzlocke because an early Kricketune can have a temporary stat advantage over unevolved route encounters and requires very little grinding to reach that point. The problem is that its 51 Defense and 51 Special Defense provide almost no cushion against unexpected critical hits or super-effective Fire, Flying, and Rock moves, while only base 65 Speed means it cannot consistently rely on moving first. Swords Dance can create sweeps against weak opponents but spending a turn setting up with such poor bulk is often more dangerous than simply switching to a stronger teammate. Sing can theoretically prevent damage but its poor accuracy makes it an unreliable permadeath safety tool, and deliberately entering Swarm range is similarly risky. Kricketune is therefore best used for carefully chosen early matchups, finishing weakened targets, or utility rather than being trusted as a general-purpose switch-in once opposing teams become stronger.

Kricketot Biology and Behavior

Kricketot is a small, short-legged insect Pokemon that sometimes stumbles while walking because of its compact body and limited stride. It communicates by shaking its head and rubbing its hard antennae together, producing a wooden musical sound compared to a xylophone or marimba. Large numbers of Kricketot gather during autumn nights, making their calls a seasonal feature of the landscape rather than merely an individual battle sound. The collar-like structure around the head differs between sexes, with females having a larger collar than males. Its body therefore functions as a natural percussion instrument even before evolution develops the much more elaborate music of Kricketune.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Kricketot is currently tagged for antennae.
