Dragapult Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Dragapult in a Playthrough
Dreepy evolves very late compared with most three-stage families, becoming Drakloak at level 50 and Dragapult at level 60, so the line asks the player to carry an extremely weak first stage for a long time unless Dreepy is caught at a high level. The payoff is substantial: Dragapult has base 142 Speed, 120 Attack, 100 Special Attack, and useful Dragon/Ghost typing, giving it two immunities and several resistances while allowing it to attack effectively from either side. Dragon Darts is its signature physical Dragon move and hits twice for 50 power each, while Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse give special Dragon options; Shadow Ball is the most reliable special Ghost STAB, whereas physical Ghost options are generally less convenient. U-turn allows Dragapult to exploit its exceptional Speed without remaining in unfavorable matchups, and Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave can cripple dangerous opponents when immediate damage is unnecessary. Clear Body prevents opposing stat drops, Infiltrator ignores Substitute and protective screens, and Cursed Body can occasionally disable an attack after Dragapult is hit; Infiltrator is usually the most broadly useful offensive Ability. The main weaknesses are Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice, and Dragapult's 88/75/75 bulk is good enough to survive selected neutral hits but not strong enough to encourage repeated trading. The family is therefore mediocre for much of its development but becomes one of Galar's strongest fast attackers once level 60 is reached.
Dragapult in Competitive Pokémon
Dragapult has been an elite singles Pokémon for its entire competitive life, remaining OU in both Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet rather than experiencing the usual generational falloff of many fast attackers. In SS OU, its base 142 Speed outpaced nearly the entire unboosted metagame and its near-unresisted Dragon/Ghost coverage, U-turn, and broad special movepool made Choice Specs one of its defining sets. Heavy-Duty Boots pivot sets used Hex with Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave, while rarer Dragon Dance physical sets punished teams built only to absorb special attacks; Infiltrator made screens and Substitute unreliable counterplay. Scarlet/Violet preserved all of those core strengths, and modern OU still treats Dragapult as one of the tier's premier wallbreakers and fast utility pivots. Choice Specs Draco Meteor and Shadow Ball pressure defensive teams, while Boots sets use status, Hex, and U-turn to control tempo; Terastallization can strengthen Ghost attacks or alter defensive matchups, although Dragapult's natural typing is already excellent. Its long-term limitations are relatively modest offensive base stats compared with modern dedicated breakers, imperfect physical Ghost STAB, vulnerability to chip damage, and competition with new extremely fast threats, but its Speed, mixed offenses, utility, and unpredictability consistently compensate. Dragapult has also been valuable in doubles and VGC at different points, particularly because Clear Body protects it from Intimidate and its Speed enables support or fast offensive roles, though its clearest historical identity remains as a perennial OU threat.
Dragapult in Nuzlockes
The Dreepy line has one of the sharpest risk-reward curves in a Nuzlocke because Dreepy is exceptionally weak and does not evolve until level 50, then requires another ten levels before reaching Dragapult. If the encounter occurs late enough that those levels are immediately practical, the weakness of the first stage matters much less; otherwise, switch-training or experience items are safer than exposing Dreepy to ordinary combat. Drakloak is usable but still only an intermediate stage, while Dragapult's base 142 Speed is outstanding for permadeath play because it can reliably move first against most unboosted story opponents and avoid damage by scoring clean knockouts. Dragon Darts is perfectly accurate and does not lock Dragapult in, making it much safer than Outrage, while Shadow Ball and Dragon Pulse are similarly reliable special options. U-turn is excellent for scouting and escaping predicted bad matchups, but the switch occurs only after Dragapult attacks, so it cannot rescue a mistaken Speed assumption against a faster foe. Will-O-Wisp can greatly reduce physical danger but carries an accuracy risk, whereas Thunder Wave provides speed control with its own chance to miss. Once fully evolved, Dragapult is one of the safest offensive Pokémon in the region, but its merely moderate bulk means the player should exploit Speed and immunities rather than use it as a general-purpose damage sponge.

When it isn’t battling, it keeps Dreepy in the holes on its horns. Once a fight starts, it launches the Dreepy like supersonic missiles.
Apparently the Dreepy inside Dragapult’s horns eagerly look forward to being launched out at Mach speeds.

Dragapult Biology and Behavior
Dragapult carries two Dreepy inside the hollow structures on its head and launches them at opponents like supersonic missiles by building pressure with air in its cheeks. The Dreepy are not unwilling ammunition: they eagerly anticipate being fired at Mach speed, and Dreepy reportedly gather around the fastest Dragapult in a group specifically for the opportunity to experience that flight. Dragapult can make both itself and the Dreepy it carries invisible by emptying its mind and concentrating, matching the species' classification as the Stealth Pokémon. Its signature Dragon Darts reflects this social attack behavior directly, using the carried Dreepy as coordinated projectiles rather than treating the young as passive passengers. The family therefore develops from an extremely vulnerable ghost juvenile into a fast caretaker and finally into an adult whose combat strategy depends on cooperation with younger members of its own species.

Dragapult Size Comparison: BETA
Dragapult is listed at 9' 10" (3.0 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
