Using Zacian in a Playthrough
Zacian is obtained only near the end of Pokémon Sword's postgame story, so it cannot contribute to most of the main campaign, but once available it is one of the strongest physical attackers a player can use. Hero of Many Battles is pure Fairy, while holding the Rusted Sword changes Zacian in battle into Crowned Sword, a Fairy/Steel form with higher Attack and Speed and access to Behemoth Blade in place of Iron Head. In Generation VIII, Hero Zacian had base 130 Attack and Crowned Sword had an enormous base 170 Attack, while Intrepid Sword raised Attack every time Zacian entered battle; Generation IX reduced those Attack stats to 120 and 150 and made Intrepid Sword activate only once per battle. Crowned Sword still retains base 148 Speed and exceptional defensive typing, with only Fire and Ground weaknesses, while Hero form's pure Fairy typing leaves Poison and Steel as its only weaknesses. Play Rough supplies Fairy STAB, while Behemoth Blade, Close Combat or Sacred Sword, Crunch, Wild Charge, Swords Dance, and other coverage give Zacian answers to most opponents; in Sword/Shield, Behemoth Blade also doubles in power against Dynamaxed targets. Zacian itself cannot Dynamax, so its strength comes entirely from its native statistics, Ability, typing, and moves rather than the generation's central transformation mechanic. For postgame battles where legendary use is permitted, Crowned Sword is normally the stronger default form, while Hero of Many Battles preserves the held-item slot and can use items such as Choice Band or Choice Scarf.
Zacian in Competitive Pokémon
Zacian produced one of the most extreme tiering histories of Generation VIII. Crowned Sword entered SS Ubers with base 170 Attack, base 148 Speed, Fairy/Steel typing, Swords Dance, broad coverage, and an Intrepid Sword boost every time it switched in, making defensive counterplay exceptionally narrow. Smogon banned Zacian-Crowned from SS Ubers in January 2021, sending it to Anything Goes; Hero of Many Battles then inherited many of the same offensive qualities while gaining freedom to hold Choice items and other equipment. Hero Zacian was itself suspect-tested and banned from Ubers on June 14, 2021 with 66 ban votes, 16 do-not-ban votes, and one abstention—a 79.52% ban result—leaving both forms in AG by the end of the generation. Crowned Sword was also arguably the best Restricted Pokémon in VGC 2022, where Intrepid Sword, enormous Speed, Fairy/Steel typing, and Behemoth Blade's anti-Dynamax damage gave it extraordinary role compression. Generation IX deliberately reduced Zacian's power: Hero Attack fell from 130 to 120, Crowned Attack from 170 to 150, and Intrepid Sword now activates only once per battle rather than on every entry. Those nerfs were enough for both forms to remain in the ordinary SV Uber ecosystem rather than being automatically exiled from it; Zacian-Crowned is still considered one of the tier's premier physical threats thanks to Swords Dance, base 148 Speed, excellent typing, and broad coverage. Its competitive history therefore spans two distinct eras: a Generation VIII form so oppressive that even Ubers banned it, and a nerfed but still elite Generation IX restricted Pokémon.
Zacian in Nuzlockes
Zacian is normally a postgame-only encounter in Sword, so its value in a conventional Nuzlocke depends on whether the ruleset continues beyond the Champion and whether legendary Pokémon are permitted. If allowed, Zacian offers an enormous safety margin because its Speed, Attack, Fairy typing, and strong accurate coverage let it remove many opponents before they can act. Crowned Sword's Fairy/Steel typing is particularly safe, supplying two immunities and many resistances while leaving only Fire and Ground weaknesses, although the Rusted Sword occupies the held-item slot. Behemoth Blade is perfectly accurate and extremely strong, especially against Dynamax targets in Generation VIII, while Sacred Sword offers a safer Fighting option than Close Combat because it does not lower Zacian's defenses. Play Rough's 90% accuracy is the main reliability concern among its standard STAB attacks, and Wild Charge's recoil should be avoided when the extra coverage is unnecessary. Swords Dance is rarely required against ordinary story opponents because Zacian's raw damage is already enormous, and spending a turn setting up can introduce avoidable crit or status exposure. Its only meaningful Nuzlocke drawback is therefore availability and ruleset legality rather than battle performance.

Zacian Biology and Behavior
Zacian is a scarred lupine Legendary whose damaged ear and numerous battle scars visually reflect an exceptionally long history of conflict. It is believed either to be Zamazenta's elder sister or its rival, and 3,000 years ago the pair fought beside two human youths to defeat Eternatus and end the original Darkest Day. Afterward Zacian returned to the Slumbering Weald, where it can transform into a statue-like dormant state and sleep for immense spans of time. Even while dormant, Zacian can cast illusions or projections of itself, and it is also capable of flight. The people of Galar eventually forgot that Zacian and Zamazenta had truly existed until Sonia reconstructed their history in the modern era.

Zacian Size Comparison: BETA
Zacian is listed at 9' 2" (2.8 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
