Using Hatterene Gmax in a Playthrough
Hatenna evolves into Hattrem at level 32 and Hattrem into Hatterene at level 42, so the family spends a relatively long time in its unevolved stages before reaching its powerful final form. Hatterene is an extremely slow special attacker with base 136 Special Attack, 103 Special Defense, 95 Defense, and only 29 Speed, making it naturally suited to bulky offense or Trick Room rather than conventional fast sweeping. Psychic/Fairy is an excellent offensive combination and defensively provides a Dragon immunity, a 4× Fighting resistance, and a Psychic resistance while leaving weaknesses to Ghost, Poison, and Steel. Magic Bounce is the line's standout Hidden Ability because it reflects many status moves, entry hazards, Taunt, and similar effects back at the user, while Anticipation can warn that an opposing Pokémon carries a super-effective or one-hit-knockout move and Healer is primarily useful in doubles. Psychic or Psyshock, Dazzling Gleam or Draining Kiss, Mystical Fire, Calm Mind, Nuzzle, and Trick Room give Hatterene strong attacking and support options; Draining Kiss is especially valuable in a normal playthrough because its high recovery rate lets Hatterene convert its strong Special Attack into healing. Its low Speed means it will often take a hit before acting outside Trick Room, so the family's good defenses should be used deliberately rather than assuming Hatterene can safely absorb every neutral attack. A Gigantamax-capable Hatterene can use G-Max Smite in Sword/Shield, dealing Fairy damage while confusing opponents; Quiet is excellent for Trick Room, while Modest or Bold are useful for straightforward special offense or greater physical durability.
Hatterene Gmax in Competitive Pokémon
Hatterene has developed one of the strongest competitive careers among Galar's ordinary Psychic-types, moving from UU in Sword/Shield to OU in Scarlet/Violet. In SS UU, Magic Bounce was its defining utility because it punished Stealth Rock, Toxic, Thunder Wave, Taunt, and phazing attempts, while Calm Mind, Draining Kiss, Psychic or Psyshock, and Mystical Fire let it pressure both defensive teams and common hazard setters. Its extremely low base 29 Speed was not always a liability: Trick Room teams could exploit it directly, and doubles formats paired Hatterene with terrain and redirection support so that powerful Psychic attacks could be used before faster opponents. Hatterene's defensive profile is also unusually useful for an offensive Fairy-type, with enough natural bulk to survive selected super-effective attacks and Magic Bounce reducing the number of passive methods opponents can use to wear it down. Scarlet/Violet currently places Hatterene in OU, where it remains an important anti-hazard Pokémon on offense and balance while Calm Mind, Nuzzle, Healing Wish, Draining Kiss, Psyshock, and Terastallization give it multiple ways to support or win games. Its current Pokémon Champions use likewise centers heavily on Trick Room and Magic Bounce, showing that the same low-Speed and anti-status identity continues in newer competitive environments rather than being limited to Generation VIII. The recurring checks are strong Steel-, Poison-, and Ghost-type attacks, physical wallbreakers capable of overwhelming its finite bulk, and the fact that Magic Bounce requires good positioning rather than automatically removing every hazard problem.
Hatterene Gmax in Nuzlockes
The Hatenna line can become an excellent Nuzlocke support and special-attacking family, but its late evolution levels mean the weaker early stages require more protection than many Galar Pokémon. Hatterene's Dragon immunity and 4× Fighting resistance create very safe switch opportunities when movesets are known, while its strong mixed defenses give real margin against many neutral attacks. Magic Bounce is exceptional for permadeath safety because it can reflect poison, paralysis, sleep-inducing status moves, Taunt, and entry hazards rather than merely curing the damage later, although the player must remember that not every status-like move is reflectable. Anticipation can be valuable if Magic Bounce is unavailable because a warning about super-effective or one-hit-knockout coverage may reveal that an apparently favorable matchup is unsafe. Draining Kiss provides accurate damage and substantial recovery, while Nuzzle offers reliable paralysis support and Trick Room can turn Hatterene's base 29 Speed from a weakness into an advantage. Calm Mind is best used against known special attackers or passive opponents, because repeated setup still creates critical-hit exposure and Hatterene cannot heal through every strong physical hit. Poison-, Steel-, and Ghost-type coverage are the main dangers, so the safest use is as a slow, controlled tank and attacker rather than expecting it to sweep blindly.

Hatterene Gmax Biology and Behavior
Gigantamax Hatterene's hair expands into a vast chamber surrounding its body while the sensory structure above its head develops into three enormous tentacles. Known as the Raging Goddess, it can sense the emotions of living creatures from more than 30 miles away. Any hostility detected within that enormous range can trigger an immediate attack rather than merely causing the discomfort experienced by ordinary members of the evolutionary line. The enlarged tentacles can fire psychic energy beams resembling lightning, giving the form powerful long-range offense that matches its vastly expanded emotional perception. Gigantamaxing therefore magnifies the family's defining sensitivity from a local sensory burden into a regional-scale detection and retaliation system.

Hatterene Gmax Size Comparison: BETA
Hatterene Gmax is listed at 85' 4" (26.0 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
