Klawf is a Rock-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX, with a base stat total of 450 and no standard evolutions.

Abilities

Anger Shell

When an attack causes its HP to drop to half or less, the Pokémon gets angry. This lowers its Defense and Sp. Def stats but boosts its Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed stats.

Shell Armor

Blocks critical hits.

Regenerator

Restores a little HP when withdrawn from battle.

Klawf Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Klawf in a Playthrough

Klawf is a standalone Pokémon available unusually early in Scarlet and Violet around South Province (Area Three), the same region where the Stony Cliff Titan is fought, so it can contribute for much of the main story without waiting for an evolution. Its base 100 Attack and 115 Defense are strong for that stage of the game, while base 75 Speed is respectable for a physically bulky Rock-type; the main statistical weakness is only 55 Special Defense. Pure Rock provides useful resistance to Normal, Fire, Flying, and Poison attacks but leaves Klawf weak to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel, all of which are common enough to require careful matchup selection. Anger Shell can turn surviving a hit that drops Klawf to half HP or lower into an offensive swing by raising Attack, Special Attack, and Speed while lowering both defenses, whereas Shell Armor is much simpler and prevents critical hits entirely; the Hidden Ability Regenerator restores one-third of maximum HP when Klawf switches out and is the best long-term defensive option when available. Its practical movepool includes strong Rock attacks plus coverage and utility such as Knock Off, High Horsepower, Crabhammer, Stealth Rock, and Swords Dance, letting it function as either a bulky attacker or support Pokémon. Adamant is appropriate for straightforward physical offense, while Impish, Careful, or even Speed-boosting natures can be justified for defensive or utility roles depending on what the player wants Klawf to outrun and survive.

Klawf in Competitive Pokémon

Klawf is currently listed in ZU in Scarlet/Violet, but it has had a documented lower-tier defensive niche built much more around Regenerator than around its signature Anger Shell. During SV PU play, Smogon analyses used Regenerator with Stealth Rock, Knock Off, a Rock STAB move, and either coverage or Swords Dance, taking advantage of the fact that automatic one-third healing on switches makes Klawf unusually difficult to wear down for a Pokémon without a conventional recovery move. Heavy-Duty Boots has commonly supported that pivoting style, while Rock Slide trades power for reliability and Stone Edge or Rock Blast provide higher offensive ceilings; Loaded Dice Rock Blast also appeared in experimental higher-tier builds. Klawf even received some early OU experimentation because the combination of Regenerator, Stealth Rock, and Knock Off compressed several useful jobs into one slot, but this remained a niche choice rather than evidence that Klawf was broadly OU-caliber. Anger Shell offensive sets can create a surprise sweep after crossing half health, yet the accompanying Defense and Special Defense drops make them fragile and the setup is difficult to engineer safely against stronger teams. Its present ZU status reflects the larger problem: mono-Rock typing gives it too many common weaknesses, 55 Special Defense is exploitable, and stronger or more reliable Rock setters compete for the same team slot even though Regenerator keeps Klawf from being competitively worthless.

Klawf in Nuzlockes

Klawf is valuable in a Nuzlocke because it can be encountered early with fully evolved-level physical stats, immediately providing a strong answer to many Normal, Fire, Flying, and Poison attacks. Shell Armor is especially desirable under permadeath rules because removing critical hits eliminates one of the most dangerous sources of unexpected damage; Regenerator is also excellent if the Hidden Ability is available, since repeated switching can restore health without consuming healing moves or items. Anger Shell is more volatile: the Attack and Speed boosts can rescue a battle, but the simultaneous defensive drops mean that a Klawf already at half health may be much easier to finish off on the following turn. Its five weaknesses and poor Special Defense make blind switches into special attackers dangerous, especially against Water-, Grass-, Ground-, Fighting-, or Steel-type coverage. Reliable Rock Slide can be preferable to Stone Edge when the extra power is not needed, because a miss in a key matchup can be catastrophic, while Stealth Rock and Knock Off add low-risk value without forcing Klawf to remain in prolonged combat. The former Titan Klawf can also be captured after its story encounter, giving players a distinctive marked specimen, but standard wild Klawf already offer the line's main practical advantages.

Klawf Biology and Behavior

Klawf is a crustacean Pokémon protected by a rugged, stony carapace, with freely rotating eyes on stalks that let it survey its surroundings in many directions. It lives on sheer cliffs, where it can hang sideways or upside down while waiting to ambush prey, although remaining inverted too long causes blood to rush to its head and makes it dizzy. Its powerful claws can immobilize prey, exploit an opponent's weak points, and grow back if lost; shed or harvested claws and shell material are also used in Paldean foods such as Klawf-based dishes and Klawf Sticks. The Stony Cliff Titan is an abnormally large Klawf that grew after consuming Herba Mystica in South Province.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
