Patrat Patrat Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Patrat in a Playthrough
Patrat evolves into Watchog at level 20, giving the player a fully evolved Normal-type very early but only modest final statistics: Watchog has base 85 Attack, 77 Speed, and 60/69/69 bulk. Its main story value comes from utility rather than raw power, with moves such as Super Fang, Hypnosis, Crunch, Low Kick, Seed Bomb, and reliable Normal STAB allowing it to weaken or disable targets that stronger teammates can finish. Keen Eye prevents accuracy reduction, Illuminate has no in-battle effect in the original Generation V games, and the Hidden Ability Analytic boosts attacks when Watchog moves after its target, though deliberately relying on moving second is awkward on a Pokemon with mediocre defenses. Super Fang is especially useful because it removes half of the target's current HP regardless of Watchog's attacking stats, while Hypnosis can create free turns but its 60 percent accuracy makes it unreliable. Adamant is the simplest offensive nature, but Watchog is generally most useful as an early-game utility Pokemon that peaks quickly rather than a long-term centerpiece.
Patrat in Competitive Pokémon
Watchog has never developed a meaningful high-tier competitive niche. Smogon places it in BW ZU, where its base 85 Attack and broad physical coverage can support a wallbreaking set using Normal STAB, Low Kick, Knock Off or Crunch, and Seed Bomb, while Analytic can provide a 30 percent damage boost when Watchog moves after the opponent. The problem is that 60/69/69 bulk is poor, base 77 Speed is neither fast enough to consistently attack first nor slow enough to exploit Analytic safely, and stronger Normal-types such as Stoutland and Ursaring usually perform the same offensive role with better numbers. Later analyses remained similarly negative, with Watchog still restricted to very low-tier wallbreaking or novelty utility. Its competitive value therefore comes from specific tools such as Super Fang, Hypnosis, and coverage rather than from a stat profile that supports sustained success.
Patrat in Nuzlockes
Patrat is easy to obtain and reaches its final evolution at level 20, so Watchog can provide useful early-game power before many encounters have fully evolved. Super Fang is one of its safest high-value tools because it guarantees substantial progress against bulky enemies without depending on Watchog's mediocre Attack, while Crunch and Normal STAB give reliable damage in ordinary matchups. Hypnosis is tempting but only 60 percent accurate, making it too unreliable to serve as the primary safety plan in a permadeath battle. Watchog's defenses are not strong enough to absorb repeated neutral hits, and Fighting attacks are super effective, so its early evolution should not be mistaken for long-term durability. It is best used to weaken or finish selected targets rather than being trusted as a general-purpose pivot once stronger teammates become available.

Patrat Biology and Behavior
Patrat stores food in large cheek pouches so it can remain on watch for long periods without leaving its post. Groups maintain constant surveillance of their nest by taking turns as sentries, and individuals become uneasy when no lookout is present. Patrat raises its long tail to signal that it has spotted an enemy and uses the tail to communicate with others. Its vigilance has a blind spot, however: Pokédex records specifically note that a Patrat focused forward may fail to notice an opponent approaching from behind.

Patrat Size Comparison: BETA
Patrat is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
