Scatterbug Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Scatterbug in a Playthrough

Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa at level 9 and Spewpa into Vivillon at level 12, making the family fully evolved extraordinarily early. Vivillon is Bug/Flying with base 90 Special Attack and 89 Speed, but its real strength comes from Quiver Dance, Sleep Powder, Hurricane, Energy Ball, Bug Buzz, and the ability Compound Eyes. Compound Eyes multiplies accuracy by 1.3, raising Hurricane from 70 percent to about 91 percent and Sleep Powder from 75 percent to 97.5 percent, which makes Vivillon's setup strategy far more reliable than the raw move accuracies imply. Shield Dust blocks additional effects from opposing damaging moves, while the Hidden Ability Friend Guard reduces damage dealt to allies in doubles. Vivillon has 20 wing-pattern forms, but they share the same typing, stats, abilities, and battle function, so pattern choice does not change playthrough performance. Bug/Flying is weak to Fire, Electric, Ice, and Flying and takes quadruple damage from Rock, making Stealth Rock and unexpected Rock coverage the central defensive problems. Timid is generally ideal because Speed is crucial for setting up or putting an opponent to sleep before it attacks.

Scatterbug in Competitive Pokémon

Vivillon established a genuine lower-tier competitive niche through the interaction of Compound Eyes, Sleep Powder, and Quiver Dance. Smogon's XY analysis describes it as one of NU's most threatening setup sweepers: Compound Eyes raises Sleep Powder to roughly 97 percent accuracy and Hurricane to roughly 91 percent, allowing Vivillon to disable a check, gain a Quiver Dance boost, and then sweep with strong Flying STAB plus coverage. One Quiver Dance simultaneously raises Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, compensating for otherwise modest base stats. Its weaknesses are severe—67/50/50 bulk is poor, priority attacks can finish it quickly, and a quadruple Rock weakness means Stealth Rock removes half its HP on entry. All 20 Vivillon patterns are competitively identical, so the enormous visual variety has no effect on tier role or moveset.

Scatterbug in Nuzlockes

Vivillon is stronger in a Nuzlocke than its early-route appearance suggests because it reaches its final form by level 12 and can later use Quiver Dance to sweep controlled matchups. Compound Eyes Sleep Powder is highly reliable but still not perfectly accurate, so a miss must remain part of the risk calculation; Hurricane likewise reaches about 91 percent rather than becoming guaranteed. The family's poor defenses mean it should usually create setup turns through sleep or favorable resistances instead of trying to tank neutral attacks. Rock moves are the greatest danger because they deal quadruple damage, and Stealth Rock can remove half of Vivillon's HP immediately on entry. Timid is generally safest, and more accurate Bug Buzz or other attacks should be preferred over unnecessary Hurricane risk when they already secure the knockout.

Scatterbug Biology and Behavior

Scatterbug eats many kinds of vegetation, including poisonous leaves and roots that would harm ordinary animals. It processes those toxins into a black powder that coats its body and can cause paralysis on contact, discouraging bird Pokemon from attacking. The same powder helps regulate body temperature, allowing Scatterbug to survive across an unusually wide variety of climates. Grafaiai is among its known natural predators.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Scatterbug currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
