Using Woobat in a Playthrough
Woobat evolves into Swoobat through high friendship rather than at a fixed level, so a player who catches one early can potentially obtain the final form relatively quickly by keeping it in the party and avoiding fainting. Swoobat is a Psychic/Flying special attacker with excellent base 114 Speed but only base 77 Special Attack and frail 67/55/55 bulk, making tempo much more important than durability. Psychic or Psyshock and Air Slash provide reliable STAB, while Calm Mind, Energy Ball, Heat Wave, Shadow Ball, U-turn, Roost in applicable games, and Stored Power give it several offensive or support directions. Unaware ignores opposing stat changes when calculating damage, which can make Swoobat surprisingly useful against setup opponents, while Klutz suppresses most held-item effects and is usually awkward in a normal playthrough. The Hidden Ability Simple is the most explosive option where legitimately available because every stat-stage change affecting Swoobat is doubled: one Calm Mind effectively raises both Special Attack and Special Defense by two stages, and Stored Power immediately becomes much stronger. Timid is usually the best nature because preserving Swoobat's elite Speed is central to surviving with such poor defenses.
Woobat in Competitive Pokémon
Swoobat has spent most of its competitive history in lower tiers, but it has developed two genuinely distinct niches. In BW PU, Unaware allowed Choice Specs Swoobat to ignore defensive boosts and act as an unusually fast anti-setup attacker, with base 114 Speed outrunning almost the entire tier. Its more famous strategy uses the Hidden Ability Simple with Calm Mind and Stored Power: because Simple doubles the stat changes from Calm Mind, a single use provides four total positive stat stages and raises Stored Power to 100 base power while also sharply increasing Swoobat's Special Attack and Special Defense. Substitute can protect that setup from priority or status, and Heat Wave gives coverage against Steel-types, but Swoobat's low base 77 Special Attack before boosting and extremely poor defenses make finding a safe setup turn difficult. It has therefore remained a specialized lower-tier sweeper or anti-setup weapon rather than a broadly reliable high-tier Pokemon.
Woobat in Nuzlockes
Swoobat's Ground immunity, quadruple Fighting resistance, base 114 Speed, and access to Psychic and Flying STAB create several excellent planned matchups in a Nuzlocke. The danger is that 67 HP and only 55 in both defenses leave almost no room for unexpected Electric, Ice, Rock, Ghost, Dark, or strong neutral attacks. Unaware can be exceptionally useful when facing opponents that rely on stat boosts because Swoobat ignores those boosts for damage calculations, while Simple can turn one Calm Mind into enormous offensive and special-defensive momentum if the Hidden Ability is available. Setup should still be reserved for opponents that cannot threaten Swoobat immediately, and Stored Power is much less impressive before boosts. Timid Swoobat is safest when used to exploit immunities, resistances, and Speed rather than being asked to absorb damage.

Its habitat is dark forests and caves. It emits ultrasonic waves from its nose to learn about its surroundings.
Suction from its nostrils enables it to stick to cave walls during sleep. It leaves a heart-shaped mark behind.
The heart-shaped mark left on a body after a Woobat has been attached to it is said to bring good fortune.
While inside a cave, if you look up and see lots of heart-shaped marks lining the walls, it’s evidence that Woobat live there.
It emits ultrasonic waves as it flutters about, searching for its prey—bug Pokémon.

Woobat inhabits caves and dark forests and navigates by emitting ultrasonic waves from its nose. It can cling to cave walls through suction from its nostrils while sleeping, leaving a distinctive heart-shaped mark behind when it detaches. Folklore says that receiving one of these marks brings good fortune. Woobat also preys on Bug-type Pokemon.

Woobat Size Comparison: BETA
Woobat is listed at 1' 4" (0.4 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Woobat currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
