Accelgor's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Shelmet evolves into Accelgor by trading with Karrablast.

Accelgor Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Accelgor in a Playthrough

Shelmet evolves into Accelgor only when it is traded specifically for a Karrablast, which simultaneously evolves into Escavalier. The evolution is therefore highly dependent on access to trading, but the result is one of the fastest Pokemon in the series: Accelgor has base 145 Speed and base 100 Special Attack. Bug Buzz is the primary STAB move, while Giga Drain, Focus Blast, Energy Ball, Acid Spray, Encore, Yawn, Spikes, and Recover in later games can support offense or utility. Hydration cures major status at the end of each turn in rain, Sticky Hold prevents most effects that would remove its item, and the Hidden Ability Unburden doubles Speed after Accelgor loses or consumes its held item, though base 145 Speed is already high enough that the boost is often unnecessary in ordinary play. Its 80/40/60 bulk is extremely poor, and pure Bug is weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock while also taking Stealth Rock damage. Timid is the natural nature for ensuring Accelgor maintains its defining speed advantage.

Accelgor in Competitive Pokémon

Accelgor was a significant BW RU Pokemon because base 145 Speed made it one of the fastest Pokemon in the entire generation. Smogon identifies it as both a dangerous special attacker and one of the game's most reliable fast Spikes users, with Bug Buzz, Focus Blast, Giga Drain, Encore, and other support tools allowing it to punish teams that treated it as a passive lead. Suicide-lead sets could combine Spikes with Final Gambit, while offensive sets used its speed to clean weakened teams or force switches and gain hazard turns. The drawback is extreme frailty: base 40 Defense and 60 Special Defense mean almost any serious neutral attack can KO it, and its base 100 Special Attack is good rather than overwhelming. Accelgor remained useful in later lower tiers, including SM NU, where it was still the fastest unboosted Pokemon in the tier and continued to combine Spikes with offensive pressure. Its competitive identity has therefore remained remarkably stable: extraordinary speed and utility balanced by almost nonexistent defensive presence.

Accelgor in Nuzlockes

Accelgor's base 145 Speed is excellent for Nuzlockes because it can often act before virtually anything encountered in the story, but it is one of the least forgiving Pokemon if the opponent survives. Base 40 Defense and 60 Special Defense mean even neutral attacks can be fatal, so Accelgor should usually enter after a knockout or against a known resisted move rather than switching directly into damage. Encore, Yawn, Spikes, and later Recover can provide useful control, while Giga Drain may recover some chip damage. Final Gambit should generally be avoided entirely in permadeath play because it deliberately faints the user. The largest practical limitation is evolution access: without the specific Shelmet-for-Karrablast trade, Shelmet cannot become Accelgor under normal main-series rules.

Black / Y / Alpha Sapphire

When its body dries out, it weakens. So, to prevent dehydration, it wraps itself in many layers of thin membrane.

White / X / Omega Ruby

Having removed its heavy shell, it becomes very light and can fight with ninja-like movements.

Black 2 / White 2

When its body dries out, it weakens. So it wraps a membrane around itself for protection while it spits poison.

Sword

It moves with blinding speed and lobs poison at foes. Featuring Accelgor as a main character is a surefire way to make a movie or comic popular.

Shield

Discarding its shell made it nimble. To keep itself from dehydrating, it wraps its body in bands of membrane.

Accelgor Biology and Behavior

Accelgor becomes extraordinarily fast after losing Shelmet's heavy shell and fights with movements repeatedly compared to those of a ninja. A thin blue membrane covers most of its exposed body and prevents it from drying out, which is especially important because it continues to prefer moist habitats such as bogs and swamps. Its permanently displeased expression is attributed to unhappiness over losing its shell. Accelgor is popular enough in-universe to be featured frequently as a heroic or dramatic character in movies and comics.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
