Blitzle's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Blitzle evolves into Zebstrika at level 27.

Blitzle Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Blitzle in a Playthrough

Blitzle evolves into Zebstrika at level 27, producing a very fast pure Electric Pokemon with base 116 Speed, 100 Attack, and 80 Special Attack. Wild Charge provides powerful physical Electric STAB at the cost of recoil, while Spark offers a safer physical alternative and Thunderbolt or Volt Switch let Zebstrika attack specially; Flame Charge and Overheat provide valuable Fire coverage against Grass-types that resist Electric. Motor Drive grants an Electric immunity and raises Speed by one stage when activated, Lightning Rod also grants Electric immunity while raising Special Attack, and the Hidden Ability Sap Sipper creates a Grass immunity and raises Attack, giving Zebstrika three abilities that can all create free switches under the right conditions. Pure Electric typing normally has only a Ground weakness, making the line easy to understand defensively despite mediocre 75/63/63 bulk. Jolly suits physical sets, Timid supports special Volt Switch and Overheat sets, and mixed approaches can take advantage of both offensive stats, but Wild Charge recoil should be avoided when Spark or another move already secures the knockout.

Blitzle in Competitive Pokémon

Zebstrika was one of BW PU's premier offensive pivots because base 116 Speed was the highest in the tier and Volt Switch allowed it to maintain momentum against slower teams. Thunderbolt and Volt Switch formed the core of most special sets, while Overheat punished Grass-types that would otherwise switch comfortably into Electric attacks and Hidden Power or item choice supplied the remaining customization. Lightning Rod could provide both an Electric immunity and a Special Attack boost, while Motor Drive offered an alternative Speed increase; despite base 100 Attack, recoil from Wild Charge and the greater utility of Volt Switch often pushed competitive sets toward special offense. Its primary weakness was power rather than tempo: base 80 Special Attack is merely average, its bulk is poor, and specially defensive Pokemon can survive its attacks without much difficulty. Zebstrika therefore built a real niche around being extremely fast and difficult to pin down rather than around overwhelming wallbreaking strength.

Blitzle in Nuzlockes

Zebstrika's base 116 Speed is excellent for Nuzlockes because many opponents simply never get to move once Zebstrika has a favorable matchup. Pure Electric typing gives it only a Ground weakness, while Motor Drive or Lightning Rod can create complete Electric immunities and Sap Sipper can instead create a Grass immunity, making ability knowledge useful for planning safe switches. Its 63 Defense and 63 Special Defense are poor, so unexpected Ground coverage or strong neutral priority can still be dangerous despite the simple typing. Wild Charge is powerful but recoil is unnecessary when Spark or another reliable move already produces the knockout, and Overheat sharply lowers Special Attack after use. Jolly physical or Timid special Zebstrika is safest when its Speed and immunities are used to prevent damage rather than asking it to trade hits.

Blitzle Biology and Behavior

Blitzle generates electricity through its heartbeat and stores charge in the white mane along its body. The mane flashes when electricity is discharged, and individuals communicate with one another by changing the rhythm and frequency of those flashes. When Blitzle is startled, its faster heartbeat increases the voltage it produces. Herds deliberately venture out during thunderstorms so lightning can recharge their manes.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Blitzle currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
