Entei Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Entei in a Playthrough

Entei is a bulky offensive Fire-type with base 115 HP and Attack, base 100 Speed, and enough overall durability to take hits more comfortably than many fast Fire attackers. In Generations II and III, Fire attacks are special and therefore use Entei's lower base 90 Special Attack rather than its stronger Attack, which makes its stat distribution less efficient than it becomes after later physical Fire options become available. Modern Entei can take much better advantage of base 115 Attack through moves such as Sacred Fire and Flare Blitz, while Extreme Speed provides powerful priority and Stone Edge or other coverage can punish several Fire-resistant opponents. Pure Fire typing offers useful resistances to Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel, with Fairy added as another resistance from Generation VI onward, but Water, Ground, and Rock remain clear weaknesses. Like Raikou, Entei's main Johto playthrough drawback is that it roams the region and can be much more troublesome to capture than its excellent battle stats would suggest.

Entei in Competitive Pokémon

Entei's competitive identity has changed considerably across generations as its movepool began to make better use of its high physical Attack. In GSC it operated primarily as a bulky special Fire attacker, using Sunny Day, Fire Blast, and Solar Beam to pressure defensive teams while its base 115 HP and 100 Speed distinguished it from frailer Fire-types. Later access to Sacred Fire gave Entei a much more distinctive physical role: the move combines high power with a 50 percent burn chance, making even many physically bulky or Fire-resistant switch-ins uncomfortable because a burn can cripple their damage output. Choice Band, Flare Blitz, Stone Edge, and Extreme Speed have supported wallbreaking and revenge-killing sets, while Inner Focus in modern generations also prevents flinching and ignores Intimidate's Attack reduction. Its main problems are Stealth Rock, recoil, limited recovery, and bulky Water-types, but Sacred Fire alone gives Entei a persistent niche that few physical Fire attackers can reproduce.

Entei in Nuzlockes

Entei can be a very strong Nuzlocke Pokemon when legendary use is permitted because base 115 HP, solid physical bulk, base 100 Speed, and strong offense give it considerably more room for error than many Fire-types. Its resistances make it particularly comfortable against known Grass-, Ice-, Bug-, Steel-, and Fire-type attacks, while later physical moves finally exploit its excellent Attack and Extreme Speed can safely remove weakened opponents. Water, Ground, and Rock attacks remain dangerous, and Entei's lower Special Defense means powerful special Water moves in particular should not be underestimated. Sacred Fire's burn chance can reduce physical risk dramatically when it activates, but a Nuzlocke should never depend on a secondary effect as though it were guaranteed. As with Raikou, Johto's roaming encounter mechanics can make actually obtaining Entei more difficult and rules-dependent than using it once captured.

Entei Biology and Behavior

Entei is one of the three legendary beasts resurrected by Ho-Oh after the Brass Tower fire and is associated with the flames that consumed the tower. Pokédex traditions connect it so strongly with volcanic activity that an Entei is said to be born whenever a new volcano appears, while one of its roars is said to trigger an eruption somewhere in the world. Its body contains such overwhelming power that Entei continually races across grasslands as though movement itself helps release energy it cannot comfortably contain. The fire it produces is described as hotter than volcanic magma and powerful enough to destroy anything it touches, while the species is also associated more benignly with the warmth of summer. Even during sleep Entei may leak flames from its mouth, reinforcing the idea that its volcanic energy is not something it ever completely switches off.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Entei currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
