Raikou Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Raikou in a Playthrough
Raikou is a fast and exceptionally reliable special Electric attacker with base 115 Special Attack and Speed, base 100 Special Defense, and pure Electric typing that leaves Ground as its only ordinary weakness. Its main STAB has always aligned well with its statistics—even before the Generation IV physical/special split, Electric attacks were special—so Thunderbolt or Thunder can take immediate advantage of Raikou's strongest offensive stat in every generation where it appears. Later movepools add Calm Mind, Volt Switch, Shadow Ball, Aura Sphere or other coverage depending on game, allowing Raikou to function as either an immediate attacker, setup sweeper, or fast pivot. The major practical limitation in Johto is capture rather than battle performance: in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Raikou is a roaming legendary, making it much harder to locate and catch than a normal route encounter. Once caught, however, its speed, special bulk, and compact weakness profile make it one of the safest and most powerful Electric-types available in an ordinary story.
Raikou in Competitive Pokémon
Raikou was one of the defining special Pokemon of Generation II OU, where its excellent base 115 Speed, strong special bulk, Electric offense, RestTalk options, and Roar made it both a premier special wall and one of the generation's best offensive phazers. With Spikes on the field, Raikou could repeatedly force opponents out with Roar while threatening many incoming Pokemon with Thunder or Thunderbolt, creating steady residual damage without sacrificing offensive presence. Later generations shifted its identity toward Calm Mind sweeping and Substitute-based pressure, using its Speed and Special Attack to force switches while Pressure could exhaust limited-PP moves during longer games. Volt Switch eventually gave Raikou an additional pivoting role, while coverage such as Hidden Power Ice in older formats, Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, or Scald in certain generations helped it punish common Ground- or special-wall answers. Its main recurring weakness is dependence on finding a way past Ground-types and dedicated special walls, but Raikou has one of the strongest competitive histories of the Johto legendary trio.
Raikou in Nuzlockes
If a Nuzlocke ruleset allows legendary Pokemon, Raikou is an extraordinarily strong team member once caught because high Speed, strong special bulk, and only one weakness dramatically reduce the number of dangerous neutral situations it faces. Electric STAB gives it reliable offensive roles against Water- and Flying-types, while its Speed often allows it to remove a threat before the opponent can attack at all. The obvious danger is Ground coverage, which can turn otherwise favorable-looking opponents into serious threats, and Raikou's physical Defense is much less impressive than its special bulk. The larger practical problem in Johto is obtaining it: roaming encounters can flee immediately, may require repeated tracking, and can make encounter legality complicated under strict Nuzlocke rules. For rulesets that permit the capture and use of roaming legendaries, Raikou is best treated as a fast special specialist rather than as an excuse to ignore opponent movesets.

Raikou Biology and Behavior
Raikou is one of the three Pokemon resurrected by Ho-Oh after the destruction of Johto's Brass Tower and is traditionally associated with the lightning that ignited the fire. The cloudlike mane across its back can generate storm clouds from which Raikou releases thunderbolts at will, and its speed is repeatedly compared directly with lightning itself. It races across open grasslands while producing roars that sound like crashing thunder and can send shock waves through both the air and the ground. Raikou appears especially strongly associated with thunderstorms and has been depicted emerging when other Electric-type Pokemon are in danger. Although some individuals are deeply distrustful of humans, Raikou is capable of recognizing and forming bonds with people who earn its trust.

Raikou Size Comparison: BETA
Raikou is listed at 6' 3" (1.9 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Raikou currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
