Suicune Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Suicune in a Playthrough
Suicune is a remarkably durable pure Water-type whose balanced 100/115/115 defensive profile allows it to absorb both physical and special attacks far more comfortably than most offensive legendary Pokemon. Its base 90 Special Attack is sufficient for reliable Water STAB, and because Water attacks were special before Generation IV, Suicune's primary offense has always aligned naturally with its better attacking side. From Generation III onward Calm Mind becomes one of its defining tools, gradually raising Special Attack and Special Defense while Suicune's naturally high physical Defense protects it during setup; Rest, Ice coverage, Scald, and other options further reinforce its tank-like style depending on generation. Availability differs importantly across Johto games: Suicune roams in Gold and Silver, while Crystal turns it into a central story encounter at the Tin Tower, and HeartGold and SoulSilver eventually provide a fixed battle after a long sequence of overworld appearances. Once obtained, Suicune's only ordinary weaknesses are Electric and Grass, making it one of the most reliable defensive Water-types available for late-game story battles.
Suicune in Competitive Pokémon
Suicune has one of the most important competitive histories among bulky Water-types, beginning in GSC OU where its excellent mixed defenses made it one of the generation's best blanket checks to powerful physical and mixed attackers. Generation III gave Suicune Calm Mind and produced its most famous competitive identity: bulky setup sets could raise Special Attack and Special Defense while relying on enormous physical bulk, Rest, and sometimes Sleep Talk to become increasingly difficult to break. The celebrated 'CroCune' style distilled that concept into a simple long-game win condition built around Calm Mind, Surf, Rest, and Sleep Talk, allowing Suicune to continue functioning even while asleep. Later generations added Scald, whose burn chance made physical opponents even less comfortable switching into it, while Pressure could turn defensive games into PP wars that Suicune was well equipped to win. Electric- and Grass-types, status management, and increasingly powerful wallbreakers have always provided answers, but Suicune's combination of setup potential and extraordinary natural bulk has kept it competitively relevant for decades.
Suicune in Nuzlockes
Suicune is an exceptional Nuzlocke Pokemon if legendary use is allowed because its 100 HP and 115 in both defenses give it one of the largest margins for error available from any Johto encounter. Pure Water typing adds only Electric and Grass weaknesses, making the defensive profile simple to plan around, while reliable Water offense and Ice coverage can handle a wide variety of opponents without exposing Suicune to unnecessary risk. Calm Mind can make already-safe special matchups increasingly secure, and Rest or other recovery options can sustain Suicune through long battles when used carefully. Capture conditions matter considerably: roaming Suicune can be awkward under strict encounter rules, while Crystal and later Johto versions provide more controlled fixed encounters that are easier to plan around. Even with legendary-level bulk, strong super-effective attacks and critical hits remain relevant, but few Pokemon are more forgiving of ordinary neutral damage.

Suicune Biology and Behavior
Suicune is one of the three Pokemon restored to life by Ho-Oh after the Brass Tower fire and has become strongly associated with clean water, compassion, and the north wind. It can purify polluted water with a single touch and travels across the world specifically seeking contaminated lakes, rivers, and other water sources to cleanse. Suicune is capable of running directly across the surface of water, while northern winds are said to strengthen whenever it appears and seem to guide its journeys. Its temperament is generally portrayed as calm, serious, and heroic during dangerous situations, fitting the unusually benevolent ecological role described for the species. When it finally rests, Suicune favors places where the surrounding water is already clean, but after waking it resumes its global search for fouled water to purify.

Suicune Size Comparison: BETA
Suicune is listed at 6' 7" (2.0 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Suicune currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
