Using Kangaskhan in a Playthrough
Kangaskhan is a well-rounded Normal-type that combines good HP, respectable defenses, usable Speed, and solid physical Attack rather than specializing in a single extreme stat. Its broad TM and tutor compatibility allows it to use strong Normal STAB alongside coverage such as Ground, Fighting, Dark, or other attacks depending on generation, making it effective at filling gaps in an existing team. Fake Out provides guaranteed opening chip where available, while Scrappy in later generations allows Normal- and Fighting-type attacks to affect Ghost-types. Kangaskhan's main ordinary-play drawback is often availability rather than performance: in games such as FireRed and LeafGreen it is a rare Safari Zone encounter that can be difficult to secure. Where Mega Evolution is available, Mega Kangaskhan becomes dramatically stronger through Parental Bond and can function as one of the most powerful general-purpose physical attackers available in a story playthrough.
Kangaskhan in Competitive Pokémon
Standard Kangaskhan has generally occupied lower competitive tiers as a bulky physical attacker, with Scrappy, Fake Out, Normal STAB, and extensive coverage allowing it to pressure targets that many Normal-types cannot. Mega Kangaskhan transformed the species into one of the defining competitive threats of the Mega Evolution era. Parental Bond causes damaging attacks to strike twice, greatly increasing effective damage while also interacting particularly strongly with effects such as Power-Up Punch and allowing attacks to break through Focus Sash or Substitute-style protection more effectively. Its combination of 105 HP, increased Attack and Defense, usable Speed, priority, and exceptional move variety made Mega Kangaskhan powerful enough to receive very restrictive tier treatment in singles and to become a major force in several doubles formats. Later changes reduced the damage of Parental Bond's second hit, but the Mega form remained strategically significant.
Kangaskhan in Nuzlockes
Kangaskhan is a strong Nuzlocke encounter when it can actually be obtained. FireRed and LeafGreen community analyses consistently praise its good overall bulk, respectable Speed and Attack, excellent Normal STAB, and unusually broad physical movepool, allowing it to adapt to several boss fights rather than filling only one narrow matchup. Pure Normal typing also leaves it with only a Fighting weakness under normal type interactions, simplifying defensive planning. Its main Kanto drawback is the low encounter and capture reliability of the Safari Zone, while its Attack is strong rather than overwhelmingly high, so it may not always secure one-hit knockouts against healthy neutral opponents. Once caught, however, its combination of durability and versatility makes it substantially safer than many more specialized attackers.

Kangaskhan Biology and Behavior
Kangaskhan is a strongly maternal Pokemon whose young normally remain inside the mother's abdominal pouch and rarely leave it until approximately three years of age. A mother will violently attack anything she perceives as a threat to her offspring and will allow the young to leave the pouch and play only when she considers the surrounding area safe. Kangaskhan can still move rapidly while carrying its baby. To avoid accidentally crushing the young while resting, it sleeps while standing upright.

Kangaskhan Size Comparison: BETA
Kangaskhan is listed at 7' 3" (2.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
