Rhydon Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Rhydon in a Playthrough
The Rhyhorn line is a slow Rock/Ground family built around enormous physical Attack and Defense. Rhyhorn is held back by a very late level-42 evolution, low Speed, weak Special Defense, and quadruple weaknesses to Water and Grass, but Rhydon develops into a powerful physical tank with strong Ground and Rock STAB and enough raw Attack to threaten most neutral opponents. Rhyperior further improves HP, Attack, and Defense and can gain Solid Rock, reducing damage from super-effective attacks, but it traditionally requires trading Rhydon while holding a Protector and is therefore not always obtainable during a normal playthrough. The line performs extremely well against known physical Normal-, Flying-, Fire-, Poison-, Rock-, and Electric-type opponents, but its poor Speed and special vulnerability make blindly switching it into coverage moves dangerous.
Rhydon in Competitive Pokémon
Rhydon and Rhyperior have both maintained competitive niches despite sharing the same difficult Rock/Ground weaknesses. Rhydon benefits enormously from Eviolite in later generations, giving its already strong HP and physical Defense even greater overall bulk while retaining high Attack and access to Stealth Rock, Swords Dance, or Rock Polish. Rhyperior sacrifices Eviolite access for greater natural bulk and offensive power, with Solid Rock reducing super-effective damage and strong Earthquake plus Rock STAB providing excellent neutral coverage. Smogon analyses repeatedly use Rhyperior as a physically bulky Stealth Rock setter that still exerts significant offensive pressure rather than becoming passive. Both forms remain vulnerable to powerful special attacks, particularly Water and Grass attacks, so successful use depends heavily on controlling those matchups.
Rhydon in Nuzlockes
The Rhyhorn line can be excellent in carefully selected Nuzlocke matchups but is less universally safe than its enormous physical Defense initially suggests. Rhyhorn evolves very late and is generally inferior to earlier Ground/Rock encounters during much of a run, while Rhydon is strong enough to become a legitimate late-game physical tank and attacker; FireRed and LeafGreen community analysis generally rates Rhydon positively while noting that Geodude and Golem are available earlier. The quadruple Water and Grass weaknesses and very poor Special Defense are the central dangers, because the line is too slow to reliably escape an unexpected special attack by moving first. Rhyperior improves physical power and durability further and Solid Rock softens super-effective hits, but its trade-item evolution can restrict access. Against a known physical opponent without appropriate coverage, however, Rhydon and Rhyperior can be among the safest available choices.

Rhydon Biology and Behavior
Rhydon is extraordinarily powerful, using its tail to topple buildings and its rotating horn to bore through solid rock and shatter extremely hard material. Individuals sharpen their horns by clashing them against one another. Its armor-like hide withstands extreme heat and heavy physical impacts, with Pokedex accounts describing Rhydon surviving molten magma and cannon fire. This protection also reduces its sensitivity to external stimuli, and despite having a more developed brain than Rhyhorn it remains prone to forgetfulness.

Rhydon Size Comparison: BETA
Rhydon is listed at 6' 3" (1.9 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Rhydon currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
