Koffing Koffing Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Koffing in a Playthrough
The Koffing line develops into an exceptionally physically durable Poison-type whose main playthrough value comes from defensive utility and broad coverage rather than Speed. Kantonian Weezing has very high Defense and, from Generation III onward when using Levitate, can turn Poison's Ground weakness into an immunity, leaving Psychic as its only normal weakness in those generations. Will-O-Wisp, Haze, status moves, and broad TM coverage can make it a useful physical wall and problem-solver, although its low Speed and only moderate special bulk require care. Galarian Weezing instead becomes Poison/Fairy, gaining a Dragon immunity and useful Fighting and Dark resistances while adding Fairy STAB; depending on its ability, it can also retain a Ground immunity through Levitate or disrupt abilities through Neutralizing Gas. Koffing evolves relatively late at level 35, so the line often contributes more strongly in the middle and later portions of a game.
Koffing in Competitive Pokémon
Kantonian Weezing has a long-established role as a physical wall. Its high Defense, Levitate in formats where that ability is used, and access to Will-O-Wisp allow it to switch into physical attackers and further reduce their damage, while Haze prevents opponents from defeating it through repeated stat boosts. Pain Split, Toxic Spikes, and broad coverage have provided additional utility across generations. Galarian Weezing adds Poison/Fairy typing and has an especially unusual competitive identity through Neutralizing Gas, which suppresses most other active abilities while Weezing remains on the field; Levitate provides an alternative defensive approach, and Misty Surge has also been available to the Galarian form. This combination of typing, status, ability control, and physical bulk gives Galarian Weezing valuable support roles in both singles and doubles.
Koffing in Nuzlockes
Weezing is particularly valuable in Nuzlockes when a team needs a reliable answer to physical attackers. FireRed and LeafGreen community analysis consistently highlights its excellent physical Defense, Levitate, Haze, status options, and unusually broad TM coverage, although late availability and poor access to strong Poison STAB before the Elite Four reduce its value in those games. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald it can perform even better because useful Poison moves become available earlier and Levitate creates particularly valuable immunity-based matchups. Galarian Weezing has an even broader defensive typing and can neutralize some dangerous ability-dependent strategies, although its Psychic and Steel weaknesses and mediocre Special Defense still require caution. Self-Destruct and Explosion exist as emergency tools for the line, but are naturally unattractive under permanent-death rules.

Because it stores several kinds of toxic gases in its body, it is prone to exploding without warning.
In hot places, its internal gases could expand and explode without any warning. Be very careful!
Its thin, filmy body is filled with gases that cause constant sniffles, coughs and teary eyes.
The poisonous gases it contains are a little bit lighter than air, keeping it slightly airborne.
If one gets close enough to it when it expels poisonous gas, the gas swirling inside it can be seen.
If KOFFING becomes agitated, it raises the toxicity of its internal gases and jets them out from all over its body. This POKéMON may also overinflate its round body, then explode.
KOFFING embodies toxic substances. It mixes the toxins with raw garbage to set off a chemical reaction that results in a terribly powerful poison gas. The higher the temperature, the more gas is concocted by this POKéMON.
Getting up close to a KOFFING will give you a chance to observe, through its thin skin, the toxic gases swirling inside. It blows up at the slightest stimulation.
Its thin, balloon-like body is inflated by horribly toxic gases. It reeks when it is nearby.
Lighter-than-air gases in its body keep it aloft. The gases not only smell, they are also explosive.

Toxic gas is held within its thin, balloon-shaped body, so it can cause massive explosions.

Its body is full of poisonous gas. It floats into garbage dumps, seeking out the fumes of raw, rotting trash.
It adores polluted air. Some claim that Koffing used to be more plentiful in the Galar region than they are now.

Koffing Biology and Behavior
Koffing is a hollow spherical Pokemon filled with toxic gases and covered by openings through which those gases are released. Its thin skin can rupture if its body becomes excessively inflated. Koffing produces gas by mixing toxins with garbage, generates larger quantities at higher temperatures, and releases more toxic mixtures when agitated. The gases are lighter than air and allow it to hover, while fire or electricity can ignite them. Koffing feeds on fumes from rotting garbage, toxic waste, and polluted air and is therefore most commonly associated with urban and industrial environments.

Koffing Size Comparison: BETA
Koffing is listed at 2' 0" (0.6 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Koffing currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
