Machamp's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Machop evolves into Machoke at level 28, and Machoke evolves into Machamp by trading or with a Linking Cord.

Forms

Machamp Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Machamp in a Playthrough

The Machop line is built around high physical Attack and respectable durability at the cost of low Speed. Fighting STAB gives Machoke and Machamp strong matchups against Normal-, Rock-, Ice-, Steel-, and Dark-types, while coverage moves such as Rock Slide, Earthquake, and elemental punches vary by generation and can help against common Fighting-resistant opponents. Machoke evolves at level 28 and remains usable without trading, but Machamp provides a significant improvement in power and bulk when the trade evolution is available. From Generation IV onward, No Guard gives Machamp the notable ability to use normally inaccurate attacks such as Dynamic Punch with perfect reliability, while Guts provides an alternative way to exploit status for increased damage. On Route 5 in Pokémon Yellow, Players can trade a Cubone for a Machoke which evolves immediately into Machamp. While there are no good Fighting type STAB moves in Pokémon Yellow, Machamp has 130 attack. So even Lowkick hits hard. The EXP boost from trade is always a nice bonus to keep Machamp at a decent level. Machamp makes great use of Rock Slide, Body Slam and Earthquake TMs.

Machamp in Competitive Pokémon

Machamp's most famous competitive identity centers on No Guard and Dynamic Punch, which turns a powerful Fighting attack with guaranteed confusion into a perfectly accurate offensive tool. This combination made Machamp particularly threatening in generations such as Diamond and Pearl, where its strong Attack and sufficient bulk allowed it to trade hits while repeatedly forcing opponents to deal with confusion. Guts sets provide an alternative approach by converting status into additional physical power rather than allowing burn or poison to cripple it. Machamp's low Speed and competition from faster Fighting-types limit its consistency, but its combination of raw strength, coverage, bulk, and ability-driven pressure has maintained a distinct competitive niche.

Machamp in Nuzlockes

The Machop line provides excellent direct physical power, but the difference between Machoke and Machamp is important when evaluating it for Nuzlockes. FireRed and LeafGreen community discussions rate Machamp very highly when trade evolution is available because high Attack, useful bulk, Bulk Up, Guts, and strong Fighting moves can overwhelm many opponents, while Machoke receives substantially more modest evaluations. Low Speed means both forms must frequently absorb attacks before retaliating, making strong Psychic- and Flying-type moves especially dangerous. Later generations improve reliability through No Guard, which removes the accuracy risk from moves such as Dynamic Punch, but the ability also causes attacks aimed at Machamp to connect automatically.

Machamp Biology and Behavior

Machamp is said to know every martial arts style and can throw hundreds of punches per second using its four arms. The arms can attack from multiple angles, restrain all of an opponent's limbs, or attack and defend simultaneously, and they react faster than Machamp can consciously process their movement. This extraordinary speed and power comes with poor fine-motor dexterity, and delicate tasks can cause its four arms to become tangled. Humans also use Machamp for heavy labor; in Alola, trained Machamp carry people while moving enormous rocks as Ride Pokemon.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Machamp currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
