Mankey's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Mankey evolves into Primeape at level 28, and Primeape evolves into Annihilape by using rage Fist 20 times.

Mankey Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Mankey in a Playthrough

The Mankey line is an offensively oriented Fighting-type line whose combination of good Attack and Speed lets it threaten common Normal-, Rock-, Ice-, Steel-, and Dark-types before they can respond. Primeape is substantially faster than many Fighting-types and has received useful coverage and Fighting STAB across generations, although its mediocre defenses make it poorly suited to repeatedly absorb neutral attacks. In Kanto, Mankey can be obtained early enough to provide an important answer to Brock, particularly for players using Charmander, although Primeape faces increasing competition from other Fighting-types later in the game. Where Annihilape is available, the line becomes significantly stronger: Fighting/Ghost typing, improved bulk, and Rage Fist give it far greater staying power and offensive potential than Primeape alone.

Mankey in Competitive Pokémon

Primeape has historically functioned as a fast Fighting-type attacker, revenge killer, and pivot, with Smogon analyses highlighting its Speed, broad physical coverage, strong Fighting STAB, and access to U-turn. Vital Spirit has given it a useful immunity to sleep in some formats, while Defiant in later generations can punish opposing stat reduction. Annihilape dramatically raised the line's competitive ceiling by combining good bulk and Attack with Fighting/Ghost STAB and Rage Fist, whose power increases as Annihilape survives attacks. This interaction makes defensive investment unusually compatible with offense, allowing Annihilape to use setup and recovery strategies while becoming progressively more dangerous the longer it remains in battle.

Mankey in Nuzlockes

Mankey is particularly valuable in early Kanto Nuzlockes because it can provide a safe answer to Brock and evolves into the relatively fast and hard-hitting Primeape at level 28. Primeape's Speed reduces the number of attacks it must absorb, but its mediocre defenses make unexpected Psychic-, Flying-, or strong neutral attacks dangerous, so it is better used offensively than as a general switch-in. FireRed and LeafGreen community analysis generally treats it as useful but less dominant after the early game, partly because other strong Fighting options become available. In games where Annihilape can be obtained, greater bulk, useful immunities from Ghost typing, and Rage Fist substantially improve the line's long-term Nuzlocke value.

Mankey Biology and Behavior

Mankey is an extremely aggressive and short-tempered simian Pokemon that begins shaking and breathing heavily when angered before quickly entering a full rage. It lives in treetop colonies in mountainous areas, and the anger of one individual can spread through the entire colony and trigger a collective rampage. Mankey may continue raging until it falls asleep, remain angry within its dreams, and awaken enraged again. Its prehensile tail assists its arboreal lifestyle, and documented individuals have shown a fondness for foods such as bananas and chestnuts.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Mankey currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
