Using Reshiram in a Playthrough

Reshiram is a Dragon/Fire Legendary with base 150 Special Attack, 120 Special Defense, 120 Attack, and balanced 100 HP and Defense. Blue Flare and Fusion Flare provide devastating Fire STAB, while Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse, Earth Power, Psychic, Stone Edge or physical coverage, Roost in generations where available, and Flame Charge give it several offensive routes. Turboblaze lets Reshiram's moves ignore many opposing abilities, allowing attacks to bypass effects such as Sturdy, Flash Fire, or other defensive abilities when applicable. Dragon/Fire gives excellent offensive coverage and useful resistances to Fire, Grass, Electric, Bug, and Steel, but Dragon, Ground, and Rock attacks are super effective and Stealth Rock causes meaningful chip. Timid is often safest because base 90 Speed is merely average for a Legendary, while Modest maximizes one of the strongest unboosted Special Attack stats in the series.

Reshiram in Competitive Pokémon

Reshiram has always been an Ubers Pokemon, defined by overwhelming special Fire and Dragon offense. In BW Ubers, sun-boosted Blue Flare from base 150 Special Attack could produce extraordinary damage, while Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse punished Dragon-resistant or weather-dependent answers and Turboblaze prevented several abilities from functioning as conventional counters. Smogon notes that its dual STAB combination is notoriously difficult to resist, but also that Reshiram competed directly with White Kyurem as a special Dragon wallbreaker. Base 90 Speed, weakness to Stealth Rock, and dependence on sun for maximum Blue Flare pressure limited its consistency compared with faster or more self-sufficient Ubers. Even so, very few Pokemon can switch comfortably into a properly supported Reshiram.

Reshiram in Nuzlockes

If Reshiram is permitted in a Nuzlocke, its bulk and enormous Special Attack make it one of the safest late-game offensive Pokemon available. Fire and Grass resistances are especially strong, while Turboblaze removes some ability-based surprises that could otherwise turn a guaranteed knockout into a failed attack. Dragon, Ground, and Rock moves remain dangerous, and repeated Stealth Rock damage can undermine its otherwise excellent 100/100/120 defensive profile. Blue Flare is extremely powerful but less accurate than Flamethrower, so the safer move is preferable when maximum damage is unnecessary. Timid can also be safer than Modest because base 90 Speed leaves Reshiram vulnerable to faster Dragons and revenge killers.

Reshiram is one half of the ancient dragon associated with Unova's twin heroes and represents truth. Its turbine-like tail generates tremendous heat, and when the tail flares it can produce fire intense enough to scorch the world and alter global weather patterns. Reshiram can propel itself through the air with these flames like a jet aircraft. Myth says it destroys kingdoms whose rulers ignore truth and become consumed by greed, and when dormant it can become the Light Stone until awakened by a hero who seeks truth.
