Sawsbuck Sawsbuck Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Sawsbuck in a Playthrough
Deerling evolves into Sawsbuck at level 34, producing a Normal/Grass physical attacker with base 100 Attack, 95 Speed, and balanced 80/70/70 bulk. Horn Leech is the family's defining Grass STAB because it restores half the damage dealt, while Return in older games, Double-Edge, Body Slam, Jump Kick in generations where available, Wild Charge, Megahorn, and Swords Dance provide Normal STAB, coverage, or setup. Chlorophyll doubles Speed in harsh sunlight, Sap Sipper grants complete Grass immunity while raising Attack by one stage when hit by a Grass move, and the Hidden Ability Serene Grace doubles the chance of secondary effects. The four seasonal forms are mechanically identical: in Generation V their appearance changes with the in-game season, while in Generation IX Paldea their form instead changes according to the area where the game is loaded. Normal/Grass gives a Ghost immunity and useful Water, Electric, Grass, and Ground resistances but creates six weaknesses to Fire, Ice, Fighting, Flying, Poison, and Bug. Jolly helps preserve Sawsbuck's useful base 95 Speed, while Adamant makes Horn Leech and Normal STAB noticeably stronger.
Sawsbuck in Competitive Pokémon
Sawsbuck was a respectable BW NU attacker whose main strengths were base 100 Attack, base 95 Speed, Horn Leech, and two very useful ordinary abilities. Chlorophyll made it a dangerous sun sweeper by doubling Speed, while Sap Sipper created a Grass immunity and an Attack boost that could punish moves such as Sleep Powder, Giga Drain, or Leech Seed. Swords Dance, Horn Leech, Return or Double-Edge, and coverage gave it real sweeping potential, and Horn Leech's recovery helped offset recoil or chip damage. It also had a VGC 2011 niche on teams that could combine sun, Tailwind, or Sap Sipper support. Sawsbuck's long-term problem is defensive typing: six weaknesses and only average bulk make it difficult to switch in repeatedly, while newer generations introduced many stronger Grass and Normal attackers. Its seasonal forms are cosmetic and do not create separate competitive roles.
Sawsbuck in Nuzlockes
Sawsbuck can be quite effective in Nuzlockes because Horn Leech combines accurate Grass damage with substantial healing, letting it recover HP while attacking instead of spending separate turns on recovery. Sap Sipper is especially safe because it provides a full Grass immunity and can convert a predicted Grass move into an Attack boost, while Chlorophyll can make Sawsbuck extremely fast in sun. Its main weakness is the sheer number of type vulnerabilities: Fire, Ice, Fighting, Flying, Poison, and Bug moves all hit super effectively, so matchup knowledge matters more than its decent 80/70/70 bulk. Double-Edge recoil is often unnecessary under permadeath rules when Body Slam or another reliable Normal move is sufficient. Jolly can be safer than Adamant when moving first prevents an otherwise dangerous hit.

Sawsbuck Biology and Behavior
Sawsbuck's antlers and coat change dramatically with the seasons, growing pink flowers in spring, green leaves in summer, red-brown foliage in autumn, and white winter growth in cold conditions. Herds are led by the Sawsbuck with the most impressive antlers. The species migrates with seasonal changes and has historically been called a harbinger of spring. Seasonal behavior also differs: autumn males are notably short-tempered and fight one another frequently, while winter Sawsbuck are considered calmer and easier to tame.

Sawsbuck Size Comparison: BETA
Sawsbuck is listed at 6' 3" (1.9 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Sawsbuck currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
