Sigilyph Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Sigilyph in a Playthrough

Sigilyph is a single-stage Psychic/Flying special attacker with base 103 Special Attack, 97 Speed, and respectable 72/80/80 bulk. Psychic or Psyshock and Air Slash provide dual STAB, while Ice Beam, Energy Ball, Heat Wave, Shadow Ball, Roost, Calm Mind, Cosmic Power, Stored Power, and Psycho Shift allow both straightforward offense and unconventional setup strategies. Magic Guard is the defining ability because Sigilyph takes damage only from direct attacks, ignoring poison, burn damage, weather, entry hazards, recoil from Life Orb, and many other forms of residual damage. Wonder Skin instead reduces the reliability of status moves used against it, while the Hidden Ability Tinted Lens doubles the damage of resisted attacks and makes its STAB much harder to switch into. Ground immunity and a quadruple Fighting resistance create excellent entry opportunities, but Dark, Electric, Ghost, Ice, and Rock attacks are super effective. Timid is generally ideal because preserving base 97 Speed matters greatly for both offensive and Cosmic Power sets.

Sigilyph in Competitive Pokémon

Sigilyph was a major BW RU threat because Magic Guard interacts extraordinarily well with its movepool. The famous Cosmic Power set used Flame Orb to burn Sigilyph without taking burn damage, Psycho Shift to transfer that burn to an opponent, Roost for recovery, and Stored Power to become stronger as Cosmic Power repeatedly raised both defenses. Magic Guard also lets offensive sets use Life Orb without recoil or ignore Stealth Rock despite the Flying typing, while Tinted Lens provides an alternative approach that punishes nominal Psychic- or Flying-resistant switch-ins. Smogon describes Sigilyph as one of the standout threats in BW RU, and it also had legitimate VGC 2011 utility through Tailwind and Magic Guard. Its moderate raw bulk and five weaknesses keep it from being universally safe, but the combination of residual-damage immunity, recovery, setup, and a strong base 103 Special Attack gives it an unusually distinctive competitive identity.

Sigilyph in Nuzlockes

Magic Guard makes Sigilyph exceptionally useful in Nuzlockes because it eliminates many sources of gradual or indirect damage that normally create unexpected deaths. Poison and burn chip, sand or hail damage, entry hazards, and Life Orb recoil do not damage a Magic Guard Sigilyph, while its Ground immunity and strong Fighting resistance create predictable switches. The Cosmic Power and Stored Power strategy can become extremely safe once several boosts are established, but setting up repeatedly is dangerous against critical hits or strong super-effective Dark, Electric, Ghost, Ice, and Rock moves. Psycho Shift can transfer a status condition, but intentionally activating Flame Orb for competitive purposes is often unnecessary in a permadeath run when simpler attacks already win. Timid Sigilyph is safest when its Speed and immunities are used proactively rather than relying only on accumulated defensive boosts.

Sigilyph Biology and Behavior

Sigilyph is a constantly levitating Psychic-type associated with deserts, ruins, and an ancient civilization. It retains memories of guarding an ancient city and follows the same flight route over and over as if continuing its old patrol. Anyone entering the territory it watches can be attacked with psychic power. Its behavior is therefore unusually ritualized, with modern individuals still performing a protective function tied to a civilization that no longer exists.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Sigilyph is currently tagged for wings.
