Skwovet Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Skwovet in a Playthrough

Skwovet is available almost immediately in Sword/Shield and evolves into Greedent at level 24, so the family offers an early Normal-type option whose final stage arrives before the middle of the story. Greedent's base 120 HP and 95 Defense make it far tougher than its appearance suggests, while base 95 Attack is adequate for Body Slam, Facade, Crunch, Earthquake, and other physical coverage; the major limitation is an extremely low base 20 Speed. Cheek Pouch is the line's most distinctive Ability because eating a Berry restores one third of maximum HP in addition to the Berry's normal effect, allowing Sitrus Berry to provide unusually large bursts of healing. Belly Drum can combine with Sitrus Berry and Cheek Pouch to restore much of the HP sacrificed while immediately maximizing Attack, but spending half of maximum HP on setup is inherently dangerous during a normal playthrough and is rarely necessary against ordinary trainers. Stuff Cheeks consumes the held Berry and sharply raises Defense, offering a safer defensive use of the same food-storage mechanics when the player wants Greedent to tank physical attacks. Pure Normal provides a Ghost immunity and only one weakness in Fighting, but no standard resistances, so Greedent's survival depends more on raw bulk and healing than on advantageous typing. Adamant is useful for straightforward physical sets, while Brave is appropriate under Trick Room because Greedent is already among the slowest fully evolved Pokémon in the game.

Skwovet in Competitive Pokémon

Greedent has remained a low-tier competitive Pokémon in both generations in which it has appeared, but its combination of high HP, respectable physical bulk, Belly Drum or Swords Dance, and Cheek Pouch gives it a recognizable setup niche. In Sword/Shield it is classified ZU, where the most famous strategy combines Belly Drum with Sitrus Berry and Cheek Pouch: dropping to half HP activates the Berry, and Cheek Pouch adds another large heal while Greedent jumps immediately to maximum Attack. That interaction looks stronger on paper than it often performs in practice, because base 20 Speed leaves Greedent easy to revenge kill and Knock Off, status, Fighting-types, and the need to find a safe setup turn all interfere with the strategy. Smogon consequently describes it as outclassed in SS ZU by more immediately useful Normal-type setup attackers rather than exaggerating the Belly Drum gimmick into a major competitive role. Scarlet/Violet also places Greedent in ZU, where its 120/95/75 bulk and Swords Dance can support a more straightforward bulky wallbreaker approach using Normal STAB, Earthquake, and Crunch, while Cheek Pouch still provides unusually strong one-time recovery. Terastallization can improve specific matchups, but it does not solve Greedent's extreme slowness or dependence on its item for the most distinctive sets. Its historical niche is therefore legitimate but narrow: Greedent can absorb surprising amounts of damage and trade heavily after setup, but it has never been a broadly successful high-tier Pokémon.

Skwovet in Nuzlockes

Greedent can be a surprisingly safe Nuzlocke encounter because it evolves early, has enormous HP for this stage of the game, and can obtain large bursts of healing from Berries through Cheek Pouch. Its Ghost immunity provides one completely safe switch category, while having only a single Fighting weakness keeps the type chart easy to manage even though Normal supplies no conventional resistances. Sitrus Berry plus Cheek Pouch can restore a very large fraction of maximum HP automatically, creating emergency survival insurance without requiring Greedent to spend a turn using a healing move. Belly Drum is far less attractive in permadeath play because voluntarily losing half of maximum HP creates an immediate critical-hit and priority window even if the Berry subsequently restores much of that health. Stuff Cheeks is a safer way to exploit a Berry when physical defense is the priority, while accurate Body Slam, Crunch, and Earthquake-type coverage avoid the recoil or crash risk associated with more extreme options. Base 20 Speed means Greedent almost always absorbs an attack before responding, so strong special Fighting coverage and repeated neutral special attacks remain meaningful dangers despite the large HP total.

Skwovet Biology and Behavior

Skwovet has cheeks capable of stretching to many times their normal volume and uses them to carry large quantities of Berries, with additional food temporarily packed into its thick tail fur when the cheeks are full. Its constant feeding makes it more resilient than its small body suggests, but it becomes visibly anxious whenever its cheeks are empty and may stuff them with pebbles if no Berries are available. Skwovet frequently enters farms in search of food and continuously hides extra supplies because it remains worried about future hunger even after eating. When it finishes eating, it spits Berry seeds into rich soil, effectively helping establish future Berry plants while replenishing the same resource it depends upon. Gumshoos is a documented natural predator of Skwovet.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Skwovet currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
