Using Cinderace in a Playthrough
Scorbunny evolves into Raboot at level 16 and Cinderace at level 35, producing a fast physical Fire-type starter with one of the strongest offensive stat profiles among Galar's normal story options. Cinderace's base 119 Speed and 116 Attack let it move first against most ordinary opponents, while Pyro Ball provides exceptionally strong physical Fire STAB and U-turn, Sucker Punch, Fighting coverage, and other physical moves broaden its matchups. Pyro Ball is powerful but only 90% accurate, so Flame Charge or other accurate Fire attacks may be preferable when the extra power is unnecessary; High Jump Kick is even riskier because a miss or immunity causes severe crash damage. Court Change is uniquely useful in battles involving entry hazards, screens, Tailwind, or similar field effects because it swaps those effects between sides rather than merely removing them. Libero is the line's outstanding Hidden Ability: in Generation VIII it changed Cinderace's type before every move it used, effectively granting same-type attack bonus on nearly its entire movepool, while Generation IX nerfed the Ability so it activates only once each time Cinderace enters battle. In Sword/Shield, Max Soup can give Cinderace the Gigantamax Factor; G-Max Fireball provides enormous Fire damage during Dynamax and ignores many defensive Ability interactions, but that transformation is restricted to Generation VIII's Dynamax system. Jolly is normally the safest Nature because preserving base 119 Speed is one of Cinderace's greatest advantages, while Adamant is a legitimate choice when the team already controls Speed and wants maximum physical damage.
Cinderace in Competitive Pokémon
Cinderace has had an unusually dramatic competitive history for a starter Pokémon. Before Libero was released in Sword/Shield, Blaze Cinderace already had utility through its high Speed, U-turn, Heavy-Duty Boots, and exclusive Court Change, but Libero transformed it into one of the strongest offensive pivots in the metagame by granting STAB to every move and repeatedly changing its defensive typing. The resulting combination of Pyro Ball, High Jump Kick, Gunk Shot, Sucker Punch, U-turn, and flexible typing was strong enough for the SS OU council to quickban Cinderace in August 2020, and after later metagame changes and a retest it was banned from OU again in February 2021 and classified as Uber. Even in Ubers, Cinderace retained a niche because Court Change could reverse hazards and screens while its Speed and Libero coverage pressured Pokémon that slower utility Fire-types could not. Generation IX nerfed Libero to trigger only once per switch-in, substantially reducing the constant type manipulation that made the original form oppressive; Cinderace is currently OU in Scarlet/Violet rather than Uber. Modern sets use Pyro Ball, U-turn, Court Change, Sucker Punch, Will-O-Wisp, and varied coverage to function as a fast offensive pivot and unusually effective answer to hazard-stacking teams. Its competitive identity therefore changed from useful utility starter, to ban-worthy Gen VIII Libero attacker, to a strong but more manageable Gen IX OU pivot after the Ability nerf.
Cinderace in Nuzlockes
Cinderace is an excellent Nuzlocke attacker because base 119 Speed allows it to avoid damage by simply moving first and securing knockouts, but some of its strongest signature options introduce significant variance. Pyro Ball's 90% accuracy is usually acceptable when its extra power is necessary, but a perfectly accurate Fire move can be safer when the weaker attack still guarantees the knockout. High Jump Kick is especially dangerous because missing or striking an immune target causes heavy crash damage, making more reliable Fighting coverage preferable in permadeath play whenever available. U-turn is one of the line's best safety tools because Cinderace can exploit its Speed to deal damage and leave before the opponent acts, while Sucker Punch provides emergency priority against faster or boosted enemies but can fail if the target uses a non-attacking move. Court Change can rescue a team from accumulated hazards or opposing screens without spending several separate removal turns, though it must be used carefully because it swaps beneficial field effects as well as harmful ones. Libero can improve offensive coverage and alter defensive weaknesses, but in Generation IX it triggers only once per switch-in, so the player must track Cinderace's current type rather than assuming every subsequent move will change it again.

It juggles a pebble with its feet, turning it into a burning soccer ball. Its shots strike opponents hard and leave them scorched.
It’s skilled at both offense and defense, and it gets pumped up when cheered on. But if it starts showboating, it could put itself in a tough spot.

Cinderace Biology and Behavior
Cinderace turns ordinary pebbles into burning projectiles by juggling them with its feet until they ignite, then launches the resulting fireballs with highly controlled spins that make the shots difficult to evade. Its anatomy is specialized for athletic movement: a strong core, excellent balance, explosive jumping ability, and exceptionally powerful legs allow it to deliver effective kicks from almost any posture. It uses feints and elaborate footwork to mislead opponents before attacking, combining showmanship with genuine tactical movement. Cinderace becomes energized when spectators cheer for it and may begin showboating when excitement becomes excessive, although it remains capable of following a trusted Trainer's instructions accurately. When Libero changes its type in animated canon, the flame-like hair on its head can visibly change color, providing a physical indicator of the otherwise battle-mechanical transformation.

Cinderace Size Comparison: BETA
Cinderace is listed at 4' 7" (1.4 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Cinderace currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
