Walking Wake Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Walking Wake in a Playthrough
Walking Wake is a standalone Water/Dragon Paradox Pokémon, but unlike the ordinary Area Zero Paradox species it is event-exclusive in Scarlet/Violet rather than permanently encounterable in the wild. The most recent official rerun placed Water-Tera Walking Wake in 5-star Scarlet raids from December 19, 2025 through January 4, 2026, with one catch permitted per save across the recurring event series; as of August 2026 that event has ended, so a new player needs a previously obtained specimen, trade, HOME access, or a future rerun. When available, its base 125 Special Attack and 109 Speed make it an excellent special attacker, and Water/Dragon is defensively efficient because only Dragon and Fairy are naturally super effective while Fire and Water are each resisted 4×. Its signature Hydro Steam is an 80-base-power, perfectly accurate Water attack with an extraordinary weather interaction: harsh sunlight boosts it by 50% instead of halving Water damage, allowing Walking Wake to thrive on the same sun teams that activate Protosynthesis. Dragon Pulse provides reliable secondary STAB, Draco Meteor offers much higher immediate damage at 90% accuracy and a two-stage Special Attack drop, while Flamethrower or Weather Ball benefit from sun and Flip Turn can reposition the user. Protosynthesis can increase Special Attack or Speed depending on its actual stat spread, with Speed receiving the larger 50% modifier. Timid is usually ideal for maintaining its strong Speed tier, while Modest maximizes Hydro Steam and Draco Meteor damage.
Walking Wake in Competitive Pokémon
Walking Wake remains OU in Scarlet/Violet and has one of the more interesting early DLC-era tiering stories because its release immediately transformed sun offense. Hydro Steam solves the traditional contradiction between Water STAB and sun: rather than being weakened, the 80-base-power move becomes 1.5× stronger in harsh sunlight, while Protosynthesis activates at the same time and sun also strengthens Flamethrower or Weather Ball. Choice Specs sets combine Hydro Steam with Draco Meteor to pressure most conventional Water answers, while Timid or stat-manipulated Booster Energy sets can use Protosynthesis for speed and non-Choice variants can pivot with Flip Turn or disrupt switch-ins with Knock Off. Smogon formally suspect-tested Walking Wake in March 2023 after its explosive debut, but the final vote produced only about 45% support for a ban, so it remained legal and over time settled into a strong but manageable OU niche rather than becoming another immediate Paradox ban. Its main constraints are dependence on sun for maximum wallbreaking efficiency, imperfect Draco Meteor accuracy, competition for team slots and Terastallization, and defensive answers that can exploit Choice locking or force it to predict correctly. Walking Wake also translated into high-level VGC sun compositions: its Hydro Steam uniquely benefits from Koraidon's weather rather than fighting against it, and it appeared on the 2025 World Championships Junior Division runner-up team alongside Koraidon. Its sustained OU status therefore reflects a rare case where a spectacularly synergistic signature mechanic proved powerful enough to reshape an archetype without ultimately being judged broken in standard singles.
Walking Wake in Nuzlockes
Walking Wake is mechanically excellent for a Nuzlocke but practically difficult to obtain because its official Scarlet/Violet raid distributions are temporary and the latest rerun ended on January 4, 2026. If a legal specimen is available, Water/Dragon's only natural weaknesses are Fairy and Dragon, and its strong base 109 Speed plus 125 Special Attack let it avoid many hits by securing fast knockouts. Hydro Steam is one of the safest powerful Water moves in the series for this role because it is perfectly accurate and becomes stronger rather than weaker in sunlight, eliminating the normal weather conflict that would otherwise make sun dangerous for a Water attacker. Dragon Pulse is preferable to Draco Meteor when its damage is sufficient, because Draco Meteor can miss and lowers Special Attack by two stages, potentially making a continued battle unsafe. Flip Turn provides controlled repositioning, while Flamethrower offers perfectly accurate coverage and becomes stronger under the same sunlight that activates Protosynthesis. Walking Wake's bulk is respectable rather than exceptional, so physical Fairy attacks, strong Dragon moves, priority, and critical hits should still be respected despite the clean defensive typing. When availability permits, a Timid, reliability-focused set built around Hydro Steam and accurate coverage is one of the safest ways to use it under permadeath rules.

This ferocious creature is shrouded in mystery. It's named after an aquatic monster mentioned in an old expedition journal.
It resembles an illustration published in a paranormal magazine, said to be a depiction of a super-ancient Suicune.

Walking Wake Biology and Behavior
Walking Wake is a huge bipedal theropod-like Paradox Pokémon resembling Suicune, with powerful hind legs, small forelimbs, two long tails, and a multicolored mane reminiscent of an aurora. It is described as ferocious and can walk directly across the surface of water while remaining upright on its hind legs. Its control of water is unusual even for a Water-type: Walking Wake can generate superheated water powerful enough to scorch opponents, the biological concept reflected directly in Hydro Steam. A creature resembling it was recorded in the Scarlet Book roughly two centuries before Professor Sada built her time machine; AI Sada later describes Walking Wake as an ancient relative of Suicune, while the Crystal Pool Professor instead calls it a Suicune counterpart from another timeline. Because those explanations conflict and its historical sighting predates the machine that supposedly imported it, its true origin remains explicitly unresolved.

Walking Wake Size Comparison: BETA
Walking Wake is listed at 11' 6" (3.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
