Castform Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Castform in a Playthrough
Castform is a single-stage artificial Pokemon with base 70 in every stat, so its usefulness depends much more on weather manipulation than on raw statistical strength. Forecast changes Castform from Normal into Fire during harsh sunlight, Water during rain, or Ice during hail or snow, while Weather Ball doubles in power during weather and changes to the corresponding type; in the three Forecast weathers this normally gives Castform same-type attack bonus on Weather Ball automatically. Because Castform can learn weather-setting moves itself, it can deliberately choose a form and strengthen the appropriate attacks, although spending a turn establishing weather can be awkward when its defenses are only average. Rain also makes Thunder perfectly accurate, sun strengthens Fire attacks and weakens Water attacks, and snow or older hail mechanics support Ice offense, giving Castform unusually broad elemental flexibility during a story. There is no Sandstorm form, and the unchanged base-70 stats mean Castform is ultimately a creative generalist rather than a naturally powerful sweeper, but it can be genuinely useful when a team is already built around weather.
Castform in Competitive Pokémon
Castform has never been a major competitive Pokemon because six base-70 stats leave it too weak and too slow to compete reliably with specialized weather abusers. Its defining advantage is Forecast combined with Weather Ball: rain, sun, or hail changes Castform's type while Weather Ball simultaneously becomes a 100-power move of the matching type, effectively providing a strong weather-boosted STAB attack without changing moves. ADV lower-tier sets could exploit weather teams or use Castform's balanced stats and broad coverage as a flexible tank, while later generations gave it additional special coverage that allowed it to hit many targets super effectively. The fundamental problem is efficiency: dedicated rain, sun, or snow attackers usually have higher offensive stats, stronger abilities, or better Speed and do not need Castform's mediocre base form when weather disappears. Its competitive identity is therefore conceptually unique but practically niche - Castform demonstrates weather mechanics exceptionally well without possessing the stats needed to dominate through them.
Castform in Nuzlockes
Castform can be useful in a Nuzlocke because changing weather also changes its typing, allowing the player to deliberately alter both offensive coverage and defensive weaknesses during a battle. Weather Ball gives it dependable Fire, Water, or Ice offense without permanently dedicating separate moveslots to every elemental STAB, and its perfectly even stats mean there is no single catastrophic defensive stat to protect. The danger is that base 70 across the board is only average, so Castform may struggle to survive the setup turn required to establish weather against strong opponents and can become weak to entirely different attacks the moment Forecast changes its form. A player must therefore think one step ahead - for example, rain can improve Castform's Water offense but simultaneously make it vulnerable to Grass and Electric, while Sunny Form gains Fire's Ground, Rock, and Water weaknesses. Castform is safest when weather is already active or can be established against a harmless opponent, making preparation more important than raw power.

Castform Biology and Behavior
Castform is an artificial Pokemon whose cells are described as being remarkably similar to water molecules, causing temperature and humidity to trigger genuine chemical changes throughout its body. Those changes are automatic rather than voluntary: harsh sunlight produces a hot, dry Sunny Form, rain causes the body to swell with absorbed moisture like a sponge, and hail or snow partially freezes the body into a smooth, ice-cold Snowy Form. Artificial attempts to reproduce the transformations with simple heaters, showers, or freezers have failed, suggesting that Castform reacts to the full environmental conditions of real weather rather than temperature or water alone. Its temperament also changes with severe weather, becoming rougher as conditions worsen, meaning the atmospheric reaction affects behavior as well as appearance and typing. Although created by humans, Castform can now be encountered outside laboratories, making it a rare example of a manufactured Pokemon whose weather-sensitive biology functions independently in natural habitats.

Castform Size Comparison: BETA
Castform is listed at 1' 0" (0.3 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Castform currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
