Frigibax Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Frigibax in a Playthrough
Frigibax evolves into Arctibax at level 35 and Baxcalibur at level 54, giving the family the long developmental curve expected of Paldea's 600-BST pseudo-legendary line and making the final evolution a relatively late payoff. Baxcalibur rewards that investment with 115 HP, 145 Attack, respectable mixed bulk, and Dragon/Ice STAB, while Thermal Exchange makes it impossible to burn and raises Attack by one stage whenever it is damaged by a Fire-type move; the Fire move still deals damage, so the Ability should not be mistaken for a Fire immunity. Glaive Rush is its signature 120-base-power, perfectly accurate Dragon attack, but until Baxcalibur's next action opposing attacks cannot miss it and deal double damage, making Dragon Claw or another safer Dragon move preferable when the extra power is unnecessary. Ice Spinner and Icicle Spear provide physical Ice STAB, Ice Shard supplies priority, Earthquake covers many Steel-types, and Dragon Dance can correct Baxcalibur's middling base 87 Speed while increasing its already enormous Attack. Its Hidden Ability Ice Body restores HP each turn in snow, and Generation IX snow also raises an Ice-type's Defense by 50%, creating a much bulkier physical profile than Dragon/Ice typing alone would suggest. The weaknesses to Fighting, Rock, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy remain significant, and Stealth Rock removes one-quarter of Baxcalibur's HP on entry unless mitigated. Mega Baxcalibur is now official through Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension, where Baxcalibur can use Baxcalibrite to Mega Evolve into a 700-BST form with 175 Attack, but that form is separate from Scarlet/Violet's playthrough and Z-A's battle mechanics should not be projected backward onto SV. Adamant maximizes physical damage, while Jolly is often preferable for Dragon Dance sets that need specific post-boost Speed thresholds.
Frigibax in Competitive Pokémon
Baxcalibur is currently Uber in SV, and its path there is one of the clearest examples of DLC changing a Pokémon's tiering fate. Before The Teal Mask it was already a formidable Dragon Dance wallbreaker, but the DLC restored Scale Shot and added optimized snow and Aurora Veil support from Alolan Ninetales; Loaded Dice could then make both Scale Shot and Icicle Spear hit four or five times consistently while Scale Shot simultaneously increased Speed. Combined with base 145 Attack, Thermal Exchange's burn immunity, Earthquake coverage, Dragon Dance or Swords Dance, and Terastallization that could erase normal revenge-killing weaknesses, the package became overwhelming enough that the SV OU council unanimously banned Baxcalibur on September 16, 2023. In Ubers it is much less dominant but still retains a niche as a wallbreaker or setup sweeper using Loaded Dice Icicle Spear, Scale Shot or Glaive Rush, Earthquake, and offensive boosting, with Ice Shard offering useful priority against faster weakened targets. Its VGC history is also meaningful: Loaded Dice Scale Shot and Icicle Spear sets appeared in official 2026 competition, including a Baxcalibur on a Senior Division quarterfinal team at the 2026 Latin America International Championships. Mega Baxcalibur adds a new competitive branch rather than rewriting that history: the Mega Dimension form reaches 700 BST with 175 Attack, 117 Defense, 105 Special Attack, 101 Special Defense, and unchanged 87 Speed. Because Mega Baxcalibur was introduced only in late 2025, its confirmed new mechanics and extraordinary stats should be discussed separately from regular Baxcalibur's established multi-year SV tiering résumé rather than treated as though the Mega has the same historical record.
Frigibax in Nuzlockes
The Frigibax family has an excellent Nuzlocke ceiling but demands patience because the final evolution does not arrive until level 54, leaving the player with Frigibax or Arctibax through much of the period in which the line is first obtainable. Once evolved, Baxcalibur's 115 HP and respectable defenses give it good natural survivability, while Thermal Exchange removes burn as a way for opponents to cripple its physical Attack and can reward a correctly judged Fire matchup with an Attack boost. Glaive Rush is much more dangerous in permadeath play than its perfect accuracy suggests: after using it, attacks against Baxcalibur cannot miss and deal double damage until Baxcalibur acts again, so a surviving opponent or faster replacement can exploit the drawback brutally. Dragon Claw, Ice Spinner, Icicle Spear, Earthquake, and Ice Shard generally provide lower-risk alternatives, and Ice Shard's priority is particularly valuable for ending a fight before a weakened faster enemy can move. Dragon Dance can enable reliable sweeps against known teams, but spending a setup turn against an unknown Fairy, Fighting, Rock, Steel, or Dragon attack still creates unnecessary risk, and critical hits remain dangerous even under snow's Defense boost. Ice Body is a useful recovery option on dedicated snow teams, but Thermal Exchange's burn immunity is broadly valuable even without weather support. Mega Baxcalibur belongs to Legends: Z-A rather than an SV Nuzlocke; its enormous 700 BST and new battle system should therefore be evaluated separately instead of silently replacing regular Baxcalibur's Scarlet/Violet profile.

Frigibax Biology and Behavior
Frigibax is a small Dragon/Ice Pokémon whose dorsal fin absorbs heat from the surrounding environment and converts it into ice energy; the hotter its surroundings become, the more ice energy it can store. It inhabits forests and rough, craggy terrain and uses its dorsal fin to cool the interior of its nest like a refrigerator. Frigibax has a documented rivalry with Bergmite and fights them whenever the two species meet. Legends: Z-A further specifies that the dorsal fin can convert heat from fiery attacks into Ice-type energy strong enough to freeze the surrounding air.

Frigibax Size Comparison: BETA
Frigibax is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
