Iron Moth Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Iron Moth in a Playthrough
Iron Moth is a standalone Fire/Poison Paradox Pokémon found naturally only in Pokémon Violet's Area Zero, so it normally joins the team during the final portion of the main story; Scarlet players need trade, event, or Union Circle access. Its base 140 Special Attack and 110 Speed make it an immediately dangerous special attacker, while base 110 Special Defense lets it survive many special hits far better than its frail-looking design suggests. Fiery Dance is an especially efficient story move because it is perfectly accurate, receives STAB, and has a 50% chance to raise Special Attack, while Sludge Wave supplies a stronger perfectly accurate Poison STAB and Energy Ball or Psychic can cover common answers. Morning Sun is learned at a very high level but provides genuine recovery once available, and Toxic Spikes gives Iron Moth a useful support option if direct attacking is not always needed. Quark Drive raises its highest stat in Electric Terrain or after Booster Energy activates, with Speed receiving a 50% increase rather than the 30% increase used for other stats, so different stat spreads can emphasize either sweeping speed or immediate special power. Its major defensive problem is typing and physical frailty: Fire/Poison takes 4× damage from Ground and is also weak to Water, Psychic, and Rock, while base 60 Defense means even strong neutral physical attacks can be dangerous. Timid is generally the safest offensive Nature because it maximizes the line's excellent Speed, while Modest is useful when additional Special Attack changes important knockout ranges.
Iron Moth in Competitive Pokémon
Iron Moth currently sits in SV OU and has remained a prominent special attacker because few Pokémon combine base 140 Special Attack, base 110 Speed, Booster Energy, and such broad special coverage. Booster Energy sets can use Quark Drive to increase Speed for cleaning or Special Attack for wallbreaking, while Fiery Dance threatens to snowball further through its 50% Special Attack boost after each successful hit. Sludge Wave provides strong secondary STAB and is particularly valuable against Fairy-types, while Energy Ball, Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, Tera Blast, Substitute, Toxic Spikes, and Whirlwind allow Iron Moth to tailor itself to different defensive cores. Its high base 110 Special Defense can let it survive attacks from special threats that would overwhelm many offensive Pokémon, but 80 HP and only 60 Defense make physical priority and strong physical attackers much more difficult to handle. The 4× Ground weakness and vulnerability to Stealth Rock also make safe entry and hazard control important, and many common Ground-types can force Iron Moth to rely on coverage or defensive Terastallization. Iron Moth has often competed with Volcarona for a Fire-type special-sweeper slot, but instant Booster Energy activation, higher natural Speed, Poison STAB, and immediate coverage give it a distinct role even without Quiver Dance. Its current OU placement reflects a Pokémon that can function as a cleaner, wallbreaker, or offensive utility piece rather than one dependent on a single gimmick.
Iron Moth in Nuzlockes
Iron Moth is an extremely strong late-game Violet Nuzlocke attacker because base 110 Speed and 140 Special Attack let it end many battles before taking damage, especially with reliable moves such as Fiery Dance and Sludge Wave. Fiery Dance is particularly attractive under permadeath rules because it is perfectly accurate and can increase Special Attack without spending a separate setup turn, letting Iron Moth gain momentum while continuing to deal damage. Morning Sun can provide renewable recovery once available, although its healing varies with weather, and Quark Drive can create safer knockouts when Electric Terrain or Booster Energy is available. The central survival issue is the 4× Ground weakness: Earthquake, Earth Power, Stomping Tantrum, or unexpected Ground coverage can erase Iron Moth despite its good Special Defense, and base 60 Defense makes physical attacks generally dangerous. Fire Blast, Hurricane, and Overheat offer higher ceilings but introduce accuracy or stat-drop costs, so Flamethrower, Fiery Dance, Sludge Wave, Energy Ball, and Psychic are usually preferable when they already secure the required knockout. Toxic Spikes can help in long boss fights, but spending a turn on hazards is only worthwhile when the opposing Pokémon cannot threaten Iron Moth directly. It is safest when treated as a fast special attacker with selective recovery rather than as a general defensive switch-in.

Iron Moth Biology and Behavior
Iron Moth is a robotic moth-like Paradox Pokémon resembling Volcarona, with six large diamond-shaped wing panels that levitate separately from its central body rather than attaching conventionally. Reports describe it descending from the sky, following people, and sometimes attacking them. Occulture speculates that it may be a UFO controlled by extraterrestrial life and used to observe humanity before an invasion, but that explanation is explicitly sensational speculation rather than established canon. Its true relationship to Volcarona is likewise unresolved: AI Turo presents future Paradox Pokémon as distant descendants, while the Professor encountered at the Crystal Pool describes them as counterparts from other timelines, leaving Iron Moth's actual origin uncertain.

Iron Moth Size Comparison: BETA
Iron Moth is listed at 3' 11" (1.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
