Lileep Lileep Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Lileep in a Playthrough
Lileep is revived from the Root Fossil and evolves into Cradily at level 40, making the family relatively late to mature but rewarding that investment with excellent mixed bulk and reliable recovery. Cradily has base 86 HP, 97 Defense, and 107 Special Defense with equal base 81 attacking stats, and Generation III's type-based system lets physical Rock moves and special Grass moves use opposite but equally capable offenses. Recover gives Cradily dependable longevity, while Toxic, Giga Drain, Rock Slide or Stone Edge, Earthquake, Stealth Rock, Curse, Stockpile, and other options support either defensive or mixed attacking roles across generations. Suction Cups prevents forced switching, which can protect setup strategies, while the later Hidden Ability Storm Drain grants a complete Water immunity and raises Special Attack whenever Cradily is targeted by a Water move. Rock/Grass has an unusual defensive profile with weaknesses to Fighting, Bug, Ice, and Steel and only a small number of resistances, so Cradily's safety comes much more from actual bulk, recovery, and abilities than from the type chart alone.
Lileep in Competitive Pokémon
Cradily was a strong ADV UU special sponge and possessed enough real utility that Smogon also documented specialized uses for it against selected OU threats. Its combination of 86/97/107 bulk and Recover lets it survive repeated special attacks, while Toxic gradually wears down opponents and Rock Slide or Earthquake prevent it from being completely passive. Suction Cups creates a distinctive stall niche by preventing phazing moves from forcing Cradily out after it has accumulated defensive boosts through Barrier, Amnesia, or similar setup. Later generations introduced Storm Drain, dramatically improving the defensive profile by granting a Water immunity and Special Attack boost, while Stealth Rock and improved Grass attacks added more team utility. Cradily has remained a lower-tier specialist rather than a top-level staple because its typing carries several exploitable weaknesses and its base 43 Speed is extremely low, but it has a legitimate long-term identity as a difficult-to-displace mixed wall.
Lileep in Nuzlockes
Cradily can be exceptionally durable in a Nuzlocke because both defenses are strong, Recover restores half of its HP, and its relatively balanced stats make unexpected neutral damage easier to survive than with many fossils. The main practical drawback is availability: Lileep must first be restored from a Root Fossil and does not evolve until level 40, so the player may spend much of the game with the weaker stage. Suction Cups prevents forced switching, while Storm Drain is even more valuable when legitimately available because Water attacks become complete immunities and increase Cradily's Special Attack instead. Fighting, Bug, Ice, and Steel weaknesses still require careful coverage checks, and Cradily's extreme slowness means it often has to absorb an attack before healing or responding. When matched correctly, however, reliable recovery and mixed bulk give Cradily one of the better margins for error among Hoenn's fossil Pokemon.

Lileep Biology and Behavior
Lileep was a stationary marine predator that lived in warm seas roughly 100 million years ago, anchoring itself permanently to rocks on the seafloor with powerful root-like suckers. Its eight petal-shaped tentacles swayed with the current to imitate harmless seaweed, luring prey close enough to be entangled and swallowed whole. Because the body remained fixed in place, Lileep relied on patience, camouflage, and the reach of its tentacles rather than pursuing food through the water. Its hold on the seabed was strong enough to withstand rough surf without being washed away, making immobility a highly successful adaptation rather than a limitation in its original habitat. The species has been extinct for approximately 100 million years in ordinary modern ecosystems and is known primarily through individuals scientifically restored from Root Fossils.

Lileep Size Comparison: BETA
Lileep is listed at 3' 3" (1.0 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Lileep currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
