Using Crawdaunt in a Playthrough
Corphish evolves into Crawdaunt at level 30, changing from pure Water into Water/Dark and gaining a Psychic immunity alongside a formidable base 120 Attack. Generation III unfortunately prevents Crawdaunt from fully exploiting that Attack with its own STAB because both Water and Dark attacks are special by type and therefore use its lower base 90 Special Attack; physical moves such as Return, Brick Break, or Sludge Bomb are needed to use the stronger stat. The Generation IV physical/special split is consequently one of the biggest improvements the line ever receives, allowing Waterfall, Crunch, Crabhammer, Knock Off, and Aqua Jet to make proper use of Crawdaunt's Attack. Adaptability in later generations raises the same-type attack bonus from 1.5x to 2x and can make even neutral Water- or Dark-type attacks extraordinarily strong, while Dragon Dance and Swords Dance offer setup options. The tradeoff is low base 55 Speed and weak special bulk, so Crawdaunt excels at smashing slower opponents but often needs priority, setup, or a safe switch to avoid being removed by faster threats.
Crawdaunt in Competitive Pokémon
Crawdaunt's competitive reputation improved dramatically once the physical/special split and later Adaptability allowed its base 120 Attack to power both Water and Dark STAB properly. By Generation V it was a serious RU wallbreaker and Dragon Dance sweeper, with Adaptability-boosted Waterfall and Crunch providing extremely difficult-to-resist coverage and enough power to break even many dedicated physical walls. Later generations made it still more threatening through stronger Knock Off, Crabhammer, Aqua Jet, Swords Dance, and Choice Band sets, allowing Crawdaunt to remain relevant as a wallbreaker even when its base 55 Speed leaves it far behind modern offensive Pokemon. Aqua Jet is particularly important because Adaptability turns the normally modest priority move into a meaningful cleaning tool against weakened faster targets. Poor Speed, 63/85/55 bulk, and common Grass-, Fighting-, Electric-, Bug-, and Fairy-type weaknesses limit opportunities to enter battle, but once positioned safely Crawdaunt has repeatedly remained one of the hardest lower- and mid-tier physical attackers to switch into.
Crawdaunt in Nuzlockes
The Corphish line offers strong physical offense and a useful Psychic immunity, but Crawdaunt is less forgiving than many Water-types because its poor Special Defense and low Speed often force it to take damage before attacking. Shell Armor can be outstanding in a Nuzlocke by preventing critical hits entirely, removing one of the most dangerous sources of unexpected damage, while Hyper Cutter prevents opponents from reducing its Attack. Adaptability creates much faster knockouts when available, and Aqua Jet can eliminate weakened opponents before they have an opportunity to move. Water/Dark also introduces weaknesses to Grass, Electric, Fighting, Bug, and later Fairy, so the type is offensively excellent without being especially safe defensively. Crawdaunt is best used as a deliberate breaker against slower targets rather than a general-purpose Water tank, with Shell Armor variants offering the largest margin for error.

Crawdaunt Biology and Behavior
Crawdaunt is so aggressively territorial that other Pokemon often abandon ponds inhabited by it, leaving the water effectively under the control of a single violent crustacean. It challenges almost anything that approaches, seizing intruders in its pincers and physically throwing them out of the pond, while experienced individuals accumulate obvious scars across the claws from repeated battles. The confidence disappears if a pincer is lost: a clawless Crawdaunt becomes timid and cowardly until the limb regenerates, and shed pincers are described as foul-smelling and unpleasant to eat. Crawdaunt must also molt periodically, leaving the new shell temporarily soft; during that vulnerable period it retreats into a burrow in the streambed and hides until the armor hardens. Its violent temperament, territorial intolerance, recurring molts, and dramatic personality change after losing a claw make Crawdaunt unusually difficult for humans to raise despite its physical toughness.

Crawdaunt Size Comparison: BETA
Crawdaunt is listed at 3' 7" (1.1 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
