Solrock Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Solrock in a Playthrough
Solrock is Lunatone's physical counterpart, sharing Rock/Psychic typing, Levitate, and base 70 Speed while placing its stronger stats in Attack and Defense rather than Special Attack and Special Defense. Its base HP was increased from 70 to 90 beginning in Generation VII, and base 95 Attack with 85 Defense makes moves such as Rock Slide or Stone Edge, Earthquake, Zen Headbutt, and Explosion or other physical coverage much more natural than Lunatone's special approach. Generation III is especially favorable to Solrock's Rock offense because Rock moves are physical and use its stronger Attack, while Psychic moves are special and contribute much less from base 55 Special Attack. Levitate removes the Ground weakness normally created by Rock/Psychic typing, leaving Water, Grass, Bug, Ghost, Dark, and Steel as the principal weaknesses under ordinary battle conditions. Reflect, Stealth Rock, Rock Polish, Will-O-Wisp in some generations, Morning Sun, and other support options can give Solrock utility, but average Speed and Special Defense mean it should be matched carefully against special attackers.
Solrock in Competitive Pokémon
Solrock was a genuine ADV UU staple rather than merely Lunatone's physical mirror, using Levitate, good physical Defense, Rock resistance patterns, and base 95 Attack to check important physical attackers while still threatening meaningful damage. Reflect, Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Explosion allowed it to support teammates, punish common Ground- and Flying-types, and eventually trade itself for an opposing Pokemon when its defensive job was complete. Its Ground immunity was especially valuable in a generation dominated by Earthquake, and Smogon analyses note that Solrock's presence influenced opposing physical attackers to carry specific coverage simply to avoid being walled by it. Later generations added Stealth Rock and other utility, but stronger attackers, more common special coverage, and competition from sturdier Rock- or Psychic-types gradually pushed Solrock into lower tiers. It remains a recognizable defensive utility Pokemon whose best historical niche came from combining physical bulk, Levitate, support moves, and enough Attack that opponents could not treat it as passive.
Solrock in Nuzlockes
Solrock can be a useful Nuzlocke physical pivot because Levitate creates a safe Ground immunity while base 85 Defense and later base 90 HP let it absorb selected physical attacks reasonably well. Rock and Psychic coverage can threaten Flying-, Fire-, Fighting-, and Poison-type opponents, while Reflect can reduce physical damage for the entire team and Stealth Rock or similar support can contribute without requiring Solrock to sweep. The main caution is its special side: Water, Grass, Ghost, Dark, and Steel attacks are common enough that a strong special hit can overwhelm Solrock much faster than its rocky appearance suggests. Explosion or Self-Destruct may have competitive value in some generations but are generally incompatible with ordinary Nuzlocke survival goals and should be avoided unless the ruleset specifically treats deliberate sacrifice differently. Used for known Ground immunities and physical matchups rather than blind switching, Solrock can provide stable utility without needing exceptional Speed.

Solrock Biology and Behavior
Solrock is a silent levitating rock Pokemon widely rumored to have fallen from space and is specifically associated in folklore with the sun. Sunlight is its primary energy source, and on clear days groups of Solrock line themselves up facing the sun so that multiple individuals can absorb solar energy together. Although its face remains almost permanently expressionless, Solrock can sense the emotions and thoughts of other beings, giving it a form of perception that contrasts sharply with its unmoving appearance. In battle it rotates its body rapidly to release intense heat and blinding light, effectively converting stored solar energy into both thermal and visual defenses. The species lives in caves despite depending on daylight for power, creating an unusual daily cycle in which a seemingly inert meteorite-like creature must periodically emerge or position itself to recharge from the sun.

Solrock Size Comparison: BETA
Solrock is listed at 3' 11" (1.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
