Baltoy Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Baltoy in a Playthrough
Baltoy evolves into Claydol at level 36, producing a Ground/Psychic defensive utility Pokemon with strong base 105 Defense, 120 Special Defense, and Levitate. The combination of Ground typing and Levitate grants complete immunities to both Electric and Ground attacks, while Claydol also resists Fighting, Poison, Psychic, and Rock under ordinary conditions. Its offenses are only base 70 on both sides, but Generation III suits that balance reasonably well because Earthquake is physical while Psychic is special, and Ice Beam, Explosion, Rapid Spin, Light Screen, Reflect, Cosmic Power, and other support can make Claydol useful without requiring huge damage output. Later generations add Stealth Rock and additional utility, though weaknesses to Water, Grass, Ice, Bug, Ghost, and Dark make its defensive typing far less universally safe than the raw defense stats suggest. Claydol is most effective during a playthrough as an immunity-based pivot and support Pokemon that can repeatedly enter selected attacks rather than as a fast sweeper.
Baltoy in Competitive Pokémon
Claydol was a genuine ADV OU staple and one of the generation's most important Rapid Spin users. Levitate made it immune to Spikes while Ground typing prevented sandstorm damage and supplied an Electric immunity, allowing Claydol to enter hazard-heavy battlefields without suffering much of the passive damage that wore down other spinners. Its 60/105/120 bulk, Rock resistance, Earthquake, Psychic, Ice Beam, Explosion, and support moves also let it check or annoy several common physical and special threats rather than existing only to remove Spikes. Later generations gave Claydol Stealth Rock but also increased competition among hazard removers and introduced stronger Dark-, Ghost-, Water-, Grass-, and Ice-type attackers, steadily pushing it into lower tiers. Even after that decline, its historical role is substantial: Claydol was not merely viable in ADV OU, but one of the metagame's fundamental methods of keeping Spikes off the field.
Baltoy in Nuzlockes
Claydol can be a valuable Nuzlocke defensive Pokemon because its combination of Ground typing and Levitate supplies two excellent immunities - Electric and Ground - alongside strong mixed defenses. Baltoy is substantially weaker and does not evolve until level 36, so the line requires some patience before reaching its safest form. Once evolved, Claydol can use screens, status, Rapid Spin, Stealth Rock, or broad coverage to support a team while exploiting known Fighting-, Poison-, Rock-, Electric-, or Ground-type moves. The main danger is the unusually long weakness list: Water, Grass, Ice, Bug, Ghost, and Dark attacks all hit super effectively, and base 60 HP means those weaknesses can overcome the impressive defenses quickly. Claydol is safest when its immunities are used deliberately rather than when it is treated as a generic wall against unknown coverage.

Baltoy Biology and Behavior
Baltoy is an ancient clay-like Pokemon that moves almost entirely by spinning on the single pointed foot beneath its body, using rotation to maintain balance and travel. Even during sleep it remains balanced upright on that point, making the spinning-top body plan fundamental to its posture as well as its locomotion. Wild Baltoy gather in ruins and old graveyards, where groups spin together and produce loud cries that can be heard through the surrounding area. Ancient cave paintings depict Baltoy living alongside humans, suggesting that the species has occupied human settlements or sacred sites for thousands of years. Claydol's artificial origin implies that Baltoy too may ultimately descend from ancient constructed figures rather than conventional biological ancestors, leaving the entire line suspended between archaeology and living Pokemon.

Baltoy Size Comparison: BETA
Baltoy is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
