Mesprit Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Mesprit in a Playthrough
Mesprit is the balanced member of Sinnoh's lake trio, with 105 in Attack, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense, 80 HP, and 80 Speed. Levitate provides a Ground immunity, while equal physical and special offenses allow Psychic, Zen Headbutt, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Energy Ball, Shadow Ball, Knock Off, U-turn, and other coverage to be chosen according to the game and available TMs rather than being locked to one attacking side. Its greatest strength is versatility: Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Calm Mind, Nasty Plot in later games, Healing Wish, screens, weather, and pivoting let it support or attack as needed, though no individual stat is exceptional enough to dominate without a clear role. In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Mesprit becomes a roaming Pokemon after being encountered at Lake Verity, making capture itself considerably more inconvenient than the static Uxie and Azelf encounters. Modest or Timid are sensible for special offense, while Bold can suit a defensive utility role, but any playthrough use is heavily shaped by whether the player wants to spend time tracking and catching a roaming Legendary.
Mesprit in Competitive Pokémon
Mesprit was a solid DPP UU Pokemon whose appeal came from balanced 105 offenses and defenses, Levitate, and a support movepool broad enough to distinguish it from both Uxie and faster offensive Psychic-types. Stealth Rock, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, U-turn, Thunder Wave, and especially Healing Wish allowed Mesprit to support offense while still dealing substantially more damage than Uxie, and Calm Mind or Choice sets exploited its respectable mixed attacking stats. It continued to occupy lower-tier utility and offensive niches in later generations, with SM placing it in NU as a Stealth Rock setter and modern SV Smogon listing it in ZU while still praising the species' ability to function as a defensive pivot, hazard setter, Healing Wish supporter, or Nasty Plot sweeper. The problem is exactly the same balance that makes it flexible: base 80 Speed is only moderate and 105 offenses are good rather than overwhelming, so dedicated walls, sweepers, and support Pokemon often outperform Mesprit at any single job. Its competitive value therefore comes from compressing several roles into one slot rather than from being the strongest possible choice for one specialized task.
Mesprit in Nuzlockes
Mesprit is a strong Nuzlocke Pokemon if legendaries are allowed because 80/105/105 bulk is reliable on both sides and Levitate gives it a completely safe switch into known Ground moves. Unlike Uxie, Mesprit's base 105 Attack and Special Attack let it actually end favorable matchups quickly, reducing the number of turns spent exposed to critical hits or secondary effects. Bug, Dark, and Ghost attacks remain dangerous, and base 80 Speed means many offensive opponents will move first, so it should not be used as though its legendary status guarantees safety. Healing Wish is enormously valuable in competitive play but directly sacrifices Mesprit and is therefore normally unacceptable in a permadeath run, while roaming behavior in the original Sinnoh games makes obtaining Mesprit itself more troublesome than using it once caught. A Bold nature can strengthen a utility role and Modest can make reliable special attacks more decisive, but as with the rest of the lake trio, the first practical question is whether the player's Nuzlocke rules permit legendary encounters.

Mesprit Biology and Behavior
Mesprit is the guardian of Lake Verity and the mythological 'Being of Emotion,' credited with teaching humans the capacity to experience sorrow, pain, joy, and other feelings. Legends also describe a frightening inverse of that gift: a person who touches Mesprit may have their emotions drained away, and those who disrespect it can have their feelings thrown into complete disorder. Mesprit's spirit can leave its physical body without dying and later return, while the Pokemon can teleport itself and others and communicate with humans through telepathy. Its personality is described as playful and somewhat mischievous rather than purely solemn or hostile. Together with Uxie and Azelf, Mesprit can help create or destroy the Red Chain and can participate in calming an enraged Dialga or Palkia.

Mesprit Size Comparison: BETA
Mesprit is listed at 1' 0" (0.3 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale because tails can extend beyond the main body silhouette.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Mesprit is currently tagged for tail.
