Misdreavus Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Misdreavus in a Playthrough
The Misdreavus line is a fast, special-oriented Ghost family that becomes substantially stronger from Generation IV onward. Misdreavus already has useful Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, plus complete immunities to Normal and Fighting attacks; from Generation III onward, Levitate adds a Ground immunity as well. In Generations II and III, Ghost attacks are physical and therefore do not align well with Misdreavus's stronger special offense, but the Generation IV physical/special split allows Shadow Ball to use Special Attack and dramatically improves the line's direct damage. A Dusk Stone evolves Misdreavus into Mismagius, which reaches base 105 in Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed while retaining Levitate and gaining access to strong setup and utility such as Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, Taunt, Will-O-Wisp, and broad special coverage depending on generation. The main weakness is physical fragility, so Mismagius is most effective when exploiting its immunities and Speed rather than attempting to absorb unknown neutral attacks.
Misdreavus in Competitive Pokémon
Mismagius has had a strong lower-tier competitive history as a fast Ghost-type setup sweeper, stallbreaker, and, in older generations, spinblocker. Its combination of base 105 Special Attack and Speed, Levitate, and Ghost typing creates three immunities—Normal, Fighting, and Ground—giving it unusually safe opportunities to enter battle and begin setting up. In Diamond and Pearl-era UU, Mismagius was influential enough that specially defensive Pokemon were often judged partly by whether they could withstand its Shadow Ball, while Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, Taunt, Substitute, Will-O-Wisp, and coverage allowed both offensive and disruptive sets. Later generations introduced stronger competition from other Ghost-types, but Mismagius retained a niche as a fast setup attacker whose hazard resistance and immunities differentiated it from slower alternatives. Misdreavus itself also gained occasional lower-tier value after Eviolite was introduced, using its naturally good special bulk and immunities as a defensive or utility Pokemon.
Misdreavus in Nuzlockes
The Misdreavus line can be excellent in a Nuzlocke because multiple immunities allow planned, completely damage-free switches that are difficult for many other Pokemon to reproduce. Normal and Fighting immunity are always valuable, while Levitate adds a Ground immunity from Generation III onward, giving Misdreavus and Mismagius numerous opportunities to enter against predictable attacks. The line's poor physical Defense is the major danger, and strong Dark or Ghost coverage can be fatal if the player relies too heavily on its immunities without checking the opponent's full moveset. Mismagius becomes especially effective after the physical/special split because Shadow Ball finally uses its excellent Special Attack, and its high Speed helps prevent damage by knocking out threats before they can respond. Where a Dusk Stone is scarce, the decision of when to evolve can matter, but even Misdreavus can remain useful as a fast immunity-based utility Pokemon.

Misdreavus Biology and Behavior
Misdreavus is a nocturnal cave-dwelling Ghost Pokemon that deliberately frightens people and other Pokemon because fear itself appears to be part of its diet. The red gems around its neck absorb fearful emotions and store that energy, while Misdreavus creates those emotions through shrieks, sudden appearances, hair-pulling, biting, and other mischievous nighttime harassment. Its long hairlike extensions can function almost like hands, allowing it to grasp objects despite lacking visible arms. When severely weakened in some portrayals, Misdreavus's body disappears while the neck gems remain, suggesting that those gems may serve as a refuge or anchor for its ghostly form. Although its behavior is usually more mischievous than openly murderous, it clearly enjoys prolonged reactions of fear rather than simply startling a victim once and leaving.

Misdreavus Size Comparison: BETA
Misdreavus is listed at 2' 4" (0.7 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
