Umbreon Umbreon Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Umbreon in a Playthrough
Umbreon is built for survival, combining 95 HP, 110 Defense, and 130 Special Defense with a useful Dark typing and complete immunity to Psychic attacks. This makes it extremely difficult for ordinary opponents to remove, but its low offensive stats and Speed can make routine battles slower than they would be with more offensive Eeveelutions. Recovery and utility moves such as Moonlight, Wish, Toxic, and later Foul Play can transform Umbreon into an effective defensive specialist, although their availability varies substantially between games and generations. Umbreon is therefore strongest when the team needs a durable defensive answer rather than another Pokemon designed to quickly sweep trainers.
Umbreon in Competitive Pokémon
Umbreon has historically served as a defensive wall and team supporter, using its exceptional mixed bulk to absorb attacks while providing recovery or disruption. Wish allows it to heal itself or damaged teammates, while combinations of Protect, Toxic, Heal Bell, Moonlight, and other utility moves have supported defensive teams across different generations. Foul Play significantly improves its matchup against physical setup sweepers because damage is based on the opponent's Attack rather than Umbreon's poor offensive stats. Its major limitation is passivity: Pokemon that resist its limited offense, prevent recovery, or exploit it for setup can turn Umbreon's defensive nature into a liability.
Umbreon in Nuzlockes
Umbreon's exceptional mixed bulk makes it one of the safest Eeveelutions when permanent death is a concern, allowing it to scout attacks, absorb unexpected neutral hits, and provide reliable switches for frailer teammates. Its Psychic immunity can create completely safe switch opportunities, while recovery, status, and Foul Play can let it defeat opponents without relying on strong offensive stats. The main limitation is that many of its best tools are game- or level-dependent, and an Umbreon without useful recovery or utility can become durable but excessively passive. When its movepool is available, however, its ability to survive unfavorable situations gives it substantially greater value in a Nuzlocke than its relatively slow performance in a normal playthrough might suggest.

Umbreon Biology and Behavior
Umbreon is a nocturnal predator whose black fur allows it to remain almost invisible while waiting silently in darkness for prey. Its large eyes can see clearly even in total darkness, and it patiently stalks targets before lunging at the throat; its yellow rings begin glowing when it becomes excited or launches an attack. When angered or threatened, Umbreon can secrete poisonous sweat from its pores and spray it toward an opponent's eyes as a defensive mechanism. Its rings also glow under a full moon, and both its physiology and behavior are strongly associated with moonlight and nighttime activity.

Umbreon Size Comparison: BETA
Umbreon is listed at 3' 3" (1.0 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Umbreon currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
