Pheromosa Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Pheromosa in a Playthrough
Pheromosa is a single-stage Bug/Fighting Ultra Beast built almost entirely around attacking before the opponent: base 151 Speed and equal base 137 Attack and Special Attack make physical, special, and mixed approaches all genuinely viable. It is obtained only in late or optional Ultra Beast content rather than as a normal early-story encounter, and in the original Alola pair it is specifically associated with Moon while Ultra Moon provides repeat encounters through Ultra Desert. Bug/Fighting gives useful resistances to Bug, Dark, Fighting, Grass, and Ground, but base 37 Defense and Special Defense are extraordinarily low and its typing includes a 4× Flying weakness alongside Fire, Psychic, and Fairy weaknesses. Close Combat provides powerful, accurate physical Fighting STAB, U-turn lets Pheromosa strike and escape while preserving momentum, and Ice Beam is especially useful on mixed sets because base 137 Special Attack requires no special investment to punish Flying-, Ground-, and Dragon-type targets. High Jump Kick is even stronger in generations where available but creates substantial crash risk on a miss or immunity, while Beast Boost can raise Speed or an attacking stat depending on the chosen Nature and investment. Naive or Hasty are legitimate for mixed sets that want to preserve the extraordinary Speed while using both offenses, while Jolly or Timid suit fully physical or special approaches; because Pheromosa is so frail, sacrificing a defensive stat often matters less than it would for a bulkier Pokémon.
Pheromosa in Competitive Pokémon
Pheromosa is one of the clearest examples of a Pokémon proving too strong for standard OU despite also having obvious weaknesses. Early in Generation VII it was an exceptionally difficult OU attacker because base 151 Speed, equal base 137 offenses, U-turn, Fighting STAB, Ice Beam, Poison coverage, and Beast Boost made defensive counterplay dependent on correctly predicting its set and move choice. The resulting suspect test ended with Pheromosa being banned from OU, placing it in Ubers for the remainder of the generation; there it remained useful as an ultra-fast revenge killer and pivot but faced much stronger competition from Pokémon such as Marshadow and Deoxys-A. Its mixed offenses were crucial to the original ban-level pressure because conventional physically defensive answers could be punished by Ice Beam or other special coverage, while nominal checks such as Tapu Fini, Toxapex, and Mega Scizor could be overwhelmed by the correct Z-Move or coverage choice. Sword and Shield again placed Pheromosa in Ubers, where Triple Axel, Close Combat, U-turn, and other coverage preserved its anti-offense role, although the presence of Regieleki and the greater raw power of the Ubers environment prevented it from dominating that tier. It also maintained smaller doubles niches as an extremely fast attacker and speed-control user, but its base 37 defenses make almost any strong neutral hit dangerous and keep its success dependent on positioning. Pheromosa is unavailable in standard Scarlet and Violet, so it has no ordinary Generation IX usage-tier history.
Pheromosa in Nuzlockes
Pheromosa is extraordinarily powerful but unusually unforgiving in a Nuzlocke because its entire safety model depends on moving first and preventing the opponent from attacking. Base 151 Speed accomplishes that against nearly every unboosted opponent, and its physical, special, or mixed offense can often secure one-hit knockouts without needing setup. The problem is base 37 Defense and Special Defense: even resisted attacks can cause meaningful damage, strong neutral attacks can knock it out outright, and priority moves ignore the Speed advantage that normally protects it. Its 4× Flying weakness makes unexpected Flying coverage especially catastrophic, while Fire, Psychic, and Fairy moves are also dangerous enough that Pheromosa should almost never remain in merely because it expects to survive one hit. U-turn is one of its safest tools because it can exploit its Speed to deal damage and leave before the opponent attacks, while Close Combat is accurate but its defensive drops make any failed knockout even more dangerous. High Jump Kick is particularly poor risk management in permadeath play because a miss or immunity causes severe crash damage, so a slightly weaker accurate Fighting option is often preferable whenever it still secures the knockout.

One of the dangerous Ultra Beasts, it has been spotted running across the land at terrific speeds.
One of the Ultra Beasts. It refuses to touch anything, perhaps because it senses some uncleanness in this world.
A life-form that lives in another world, its body is thin and supple, but it also possesses great power.
Although it’s alien to this world and a danger here, it’s apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

Pheromosa Biology and Behavior
Pheromosa is a slender insect-like Ultra Beast native to Ultra Desert and possesses extraordinary acceleration, with Aether Foundation research describing it as reaching speeds above 120 miles per hour almost instantly. Other accounts suggest it can move quickly enough to evade lightning, making extreme speed one of the species' defining natural adaptations rather than only a battle statistic. Pheromosa displays an intense reluctance to touch objects or living things in the Pokémon world, apparently regarding the unfamiliar environment as unclean. Its other major adaptation is a powerful pheromonal effect: creatures facing Pheromosa can become confused, captivated by its appearance, and lose the will to fight. Researchers suspect that an unknown organ produces this pheromone-like substance, but its exact biological mechanism remains unresolved. Like the other Ultra Beasts investigated by the Aether Foundation, Pheromosa stores Z-Power within its body, reinforcing that its unusual physiology is fundamentally tied to the energy systems of Ultra Space and Alola.

Pheromosa Size Comparison: BETA
Pheromosa is listed at 5' 11" (1.8 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Pheromosa currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
