Celesteela Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Celesteela in a Playthrough
Celesteela is a single-stage Steel/Flying Ultra Beast with one of the most defensively efficient type combinations in the series and unusually balanced offensive statistics, allowing it to function as a wall, mixed attacker, or setup sweeper depending on the game. Its original Alola availability is late or postgame and version-dependent—Celesteela is associated with Moon and Ultra Moon—so it generally does not replace ordinary story Pokémon until the player is already near or beyond the main ending. Steel/Flying provides immunities to Ground and Poison, a 4× resistance to Bug and Grass, numerous additional resistances, and only two weaknesses in Fire and Electric, while base 97 HP with 103 Defense and 101 Special Defense gives those resistances substantial weight. Heavy Slam is particularly effective because Celesteela weighs 999.9 kilograms, Flamethrower punishes Steel-types that resist Heavy Slam, and Leech Seed plus Protect creates steady recovery even though Celesteela lacks a conventional instant-healing move. Its base 101 Attack and 107 Special Attack are close enough that physical, special, and mixed sets are all workable, while Autotomize can compensate for base 61 Speed by raising Speed two stages and later-generation Meteor Beam sets can exploit its special side. Relaxed or Sassy are natural defensive Natures, while more offensive sets can justify Modest or Adamant depending on which attacking side they emphasize.
Celesteela in Competitive Pokémon
Celesteela was one of Generation VII's premier defensive Pokémon, holding an OU placement thanks to exceptional Steel/Flying typing, balanced bulk, Leech Seed, Protect, Heavy Slam, Flamethrower, and enough offensive presence to avoid becoming purely passive. Its typing let it check important threats such as Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T, Garchomp, Mega Alakazam, and numerous Fairy- and Psychic-types, while Leech Seed and Leftovers compensated for the absence of reliable recovery. Celesteela was also highly relevant in VGC 2017, where its bulk, Ground immunity, Wide Guard, and ability to match up well into prominent Pokémon such as Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu gave it a role that few other Steel-types reproduced exactly. Sword and Shield shifted Celesteela down to UU, but it remained one of that tier's strongest bulky Steel-types, checking threats such as Salamence, Scizor, Hippowdon, Excadrill, and Nihilego while still threatening progress through Leech Seed and mixed coverage. Generation VIII also opened a more offensive path through Power Herb Meteor Beam and Autotomize: after a Special Attack increase and Speed boost, Celesteela could use Beast Boost to snowball through weakened teams rather than relying only on defensive attrition. Its weaknesses are concentrated but exploitable—Fire- and Electric-types force it out, Knock Off and status make its imperfect recovery easier to exploit, and Grass-types ignore Leech Seed—yet its combination of typing, weight-based Heavy Slam, and flexible stats has given it one of the most substantial competitive histories among the Ultra Beasts. Celesteela is unavailable in standard Scarlet and Violet, so its ordinary usage-tier record currently ends with Generation VIII UU.
Celesteela in Nuzlockes
Celesteela is one of the safest Ultra Beasts for Nuzlocke-style play because Steel/Flying gives it two immunities, a huge resistance profile, and balanced bulk on both defensive sides rather than forcing the player to guess whether an incoming attack will target one weak defense. Ground immunity is especially valuable because Earthquake and similar moves are common high-power threats, while immunity to poison eliminates another source of long-term attrition. Leech Seed plus Protect can restore substantial health and scout an opponent's move, although Leech Seed's imperfect accuracy means the strategy should not be treated as guaranteed recovery when Celesteela is already in danger. Heavy Slam is accurate and extremely strong against lighter targets because of Celesteela's enormous weight, while Flamethrower provides safe coverage against many opposing Steel-types without recoil or defensive drops. Fire and Electric are its only normal type weaknesses, but both are common offensive types, so the impressive resistance list should not encourage blind switching into unknown coverage. Explosion is generally inappropriate in permadeath play despite being available in older movepools, while Autotomize or other setup is best used only when Celesteela's natural bulk and typing make the setup turn genuinely safe.

It appeared from the Ultra Wormhole. Witnesses observed it flying across the sky at high speed.
One kind of Ultra Beast. Witnesses have seen it burn down a forest by expelling gas from its two arms.
One of the dangerous UBs, high energy readings can be detected coming from both of its huge arms.
Although it’s alien to this world and a danger here, it’s apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

Celesteela Biology and Behavior
Celesteela is a gigantic Steel/Flying Ultra Beast native to Ultra Crater whose body combines characteristics of bamboo, a rooted plant, and a spacecraft. In its homeworld it can grow from the ground while absorbing nutrients through the soil, then tear free explosively and launch itself skyward for reasons that remain unclear. Its enormous arm structures and lower body contain flammable gas that can be expelled as rocket-like thrust for both flight and combat, with enough lift that researchers believe Celesteela can reach outer space. Those exhaust blasts are powerful enough to destroy an entire bamboo forest, making takeoff itself potentially devastating to the surrounding environment. Despite its machine-like appearance, its nutrient absorption and growth patterns are explicitly plant-like, and at 999.9 kilograms it is tied among the heaviest Pokémon recorded in the standard Pokédex. Animated canon depicts a Celesteela remaining buried and growing for more than two centuries before finally launching, providing evidence that the species can have an extraordinarily long developmental lifespan.

Celesteela Size Comparison: BETA
Celesteela is listed at 30' 2" (9.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
