Xurkitree Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Xurkitree in a Playthrough
Xurkitree is a single-stage Electric Ultra Beast defined by one extraordinary number: base 173 Special Attack, one of the highest unboosted Special Attack stats in the series, lets even ordinary Thunderbolt deal enormous damage. Its Alola availability is again late or optional rather than part of a normal early-game team, but unlike Buzzwole and Pheromosa it is obtainable in both versions once the relevant Ultra Beast content becomes available. Pure Electric typing is straightforward defensively, providing resistances to Electric, Flying, and Steel and only one weakness to Ground, though base 71 Defense and Special Defense mean neutral hits are not especially comfortable. Thunderbolt is the safest general STAB, Volt Switch provides momentum, and Energy Ball is extremely important because it threatens Ground-types that would otherwise be immune to Electric attacks; Dazzling Gleam can add neutral coverage against several Dragon- and Dark-types. Tail Glow raises Special Attack by three stages and can turn Xurkitree into an absurd wallbreaker, while Calm Mind offers a slower but more defensive setup route; Beast Boost usually raises Special Attack again after every knockout. The limiting statistic is base 83 Speed, which leaves Xurkitree slower than many offensive Pokémon despite its extraordinary power, so Timid is valuable for maximizing the number of natural outspeeds while Modest is appropriate when the team supplies external speed control.
Xurkitree in Competitive Pokémon
Xurkitree debuted as an intimidating but imperfect offensive Pokémon: its base 173 Special Attack and Tail Glow suggested overwhelming wallbreaking power, yet mediocre base 83 Speed and only average bulk prevented it from consistently dominating the highest tier. In Generation VII it was UUBL, with OU sets using Tail Glow, Thunderbolt, Energy Ball, Hidden Power Ice, or occasionally Z-Hypnosis to create setup opportunities and patch the Speed problem. The Z-Hypnosis strategy could grant a Speed boost while attempting to put the opponent to sleep, but its dependence on Hypnosis accuracy made it inconsistent; straightforward Tail Glow and coverage generally provided more dependable pressure. Sword and Shield moved Xurkitree down to RU, where it became one of the tier's most restrictive Electric-type wallbreakers because Heavy-Duty Boots and Volt Switch let it repeatedly pressure conventional Electric checks while Energy Ball punished Ground-types such as Gastrodon and weakened Steelix or Flygon. Choice Scarf remained a useful alternative when speed control mattered more than immediate wallbreaking, while Beast Boost could make either cleaner or breaker sets increasingly dangerous after a knockout. Its career illustrates the difference between raw offensive stats and complete competitive performance: 173 Special Attack is spectacular, but limited Speed, middling defenses, predictable Electric-centered offense, and dependence on coverage prevent that number alone from producing OU dominance. Xurkitree is unavailable in standard Scarlet and Violet, so its established ordinary singles history currently ends with its important Generation VIII RU role.
Xurkitree in Nuzlockes
Xurkitree is excellent at ending favorable Nuzlocke matchups quickly because base 173 Special Attack often removes opponents before repeated damage or status can accumulate. Pure Electric typing is easy to plan around and has only one weakness, but that weakness is Ground and therefore often appears on extremely powerful moves such as Earthquake, making an incorrect immunity prediction potentially fatal. Its base 83 Speed is the main safety problem: Xurkitree does not reliably move first against faster offensive Pokémon, and its 71/71 defenses do not provide enough margin to absorb strong neutral attacks casually. Volt Switch is valuable for escaping slower unfavorable opponents while preserving momentum, while Energy Ball provides a direct answer to several Ground-types that would otherwise switch in freely. Tail Glow can make virtually any subsequent neutral hit devastating, but spending a turn on setup is safest only against an opponent that cannot meaningfully damage Xurkitree; in many Nuzlocke situations its unboosted Special Attack is already high enough that setup is unnecessary. Thunderbolt and Energy Ball are generally preferable to inaccurate options such as Thunder or Zap Cannon unless weather or a specific strategy removes the accuracy risk.

One of the mysterious life-forms known as Ultra Beasts. Astonishing electric shocks emanate from its entire body, according to witnesses.
It appeared from the Ultra Wormhole. It raided a power plant, so people think it energizes itself with electricity.
Although it’s alien to this world and a danger here, it’s apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.
They’ve been dubbed Ultra Beasts. Some of them stand unmoving, like trees, with their arms and legs stuck into the ground.

Xurkitree Biology and Behavior
Xurkitree is an electrical Ultra Beast native to Ultra Plant whose entire body resembles a network of bundled power cables, with exposed copper structures at its extremities and a plug-like tail. Its world contains individuals standing with their limbs embedded in the ground like enormous trees, and Xurkitree enters this same posture when its reserves run low so that it can absorb electricity through the soil. Individuals vary enormously in size, ranging from somewhat larger than a human to specimens described as mountain-sized in Ultra Plant. Aether Foundation research identifies a specialized power-generating organ as its most distinctive feature, while its cable-like body conducts electricity with exceptional efficiency. Xurkitree can discharge as much as one million volts at once and has reportedly raided a power plant, supporting the idea that electricity serves not merely as a weapon but as a resource the species actively seeks and replenishes. Animated material also depicts Xurkitree competing with Blacephalon over which can produce the brighter display, adding a documented behavioral rivalry beyond its feeding and power-storage biology.

Xurkitree Size Comparison: BETA
Xurkitree is listed at 12' 6" (3.8 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
